The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

My first RPG on the GBA, and it was awesome! :)

Ah man, when I got the first game, I couldn't put it down.

I'm on the very last chapter on Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.
While I do have complaints about the game (like the recasting), I'm still enjoying it a lot.
I'm getting Tales of Vesperia for Christmas, so I'm trying to finish this game before then.

Speaking of Tales of and Golden Sun, did you know they have the same composer?

Now that I'm back at my parent's house for winter break, I've been relaxing doing all kinds of things. Some of that time is spent playing games on my Xbox 360.

I finished the campaign of Halo 4. I definitely got my money's worth. What a great game. Now I'm playing online multiplayer. My favorite modes are Big Team Infinity Slayer and Dominion (a kind of land conquest game). I've also been playing co-op on Spartan Ops. I've had so many fun and amazing moments playing multiplayer. For example, I EMP'd a banshee (an Aerial vehicle) coming at me and skyjacked it so my team had air superiority. We dominated the match.

I've also been playing Doom 3: BFG Edition. I'm currently playing and enjoying the Doom 3 campaign and finally found the BFG 9000 (Yay! I love big, powerful weapons!). Here's a little advice if you want to play the game: Do not let your guard down. This game has plenty of traps and jump scares to keep you on edge. If you see some health and/or ammo lying around, chances are an enemy is going to appear when you get near and you're going to have to earn those pick-ups. Fortunately, the flashlight is now shoulder mounted (I never played the original Doom 3, but I heard about it) and there's plenty of ammo and weapons to go around.

Another game I've been playing is UFC Undisputed 2010. I don't play many fighting games, but this one I really like. My main strategy is to haymaker my opponents face until I KO him, and when that doesn't work, then I alternate between body shots and head shots with a little bit of grappling for good measure. I recommend not playing as Kimbo Slice. He looks tough, but he's got a glass jaw.

While I was browsing Xbox Live Arcade, I found this free downloadable game called Happy Wars. It's a cutesy "destroy the enemie's base" kind of game. It's mostly online multiplayer, but there is single-player as well. I haven't played it much, so I can't say much about it.

Finally, I bought Overlord II today and I like it. I used to play the first Overlord, but I get kept on getting lost because there wasn't a map to follow. This game solved that problem and refined some of the features of the first game while introducing new features. This game makes it fun to be an evil overlord.

EDIT: I made it to Hell in Doom 3: BFG Edition. I must say, it was almost exactly what I thought Hell would look like: A freaky eldritch place full of fire and brimstone. I lost all my weapons and ammo in the portal to Hell; including my BFG 9000. Before I was sucked into Hell I had to fight two huge, beefy monsters called Hell-Knights (which I heard were a homage to the first boss of the first Doom: The Bruiser Brothers). I made short work of them with the BFG 9000. Now that I lost my precious BFG, those Hell-Knights have become a lot more terrifying. There's just something intimidating about firing at a 10 ft tall demon that takes a lot damage and doesn't even react to getting shot at.

I am an old school type of gamer. Still have the following on my PC and plays the following on occasional basis:

Age of Empire (1 and 2)
Red Alert (Aftermath)
Dave's Risky Rescue
Pacman
Super Mario (1,2 and 3)

Active playing, 1-3. 1. World of Warcraft, took over when I finally gave up on and quit RuneScape after 7 years (2006 - 2012) been playing WoW from 2008 with lot's of Hiatuses and 2 accounts but now actively playing again!2. Grand Theft Auto: EFLC,, while waiting for GRAND THEFT AUTO 5!

Finished The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword this morning.

Did the ending of that game remind anyone else of the ending of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, or was it just me?

I finished the Doom 3 campaign of Doom 3: BFG Edition last Saturday. Very fun game, despite all the scares. I'm currently playing the expansion Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil because it was also on the disc. I love the new grabber weapon. It can catch fireballs and throw them right back at enemies; great for saving ammo. I also beat the first boss: the Helltime Hunter. My Artifact absorbed its power and now I can slow down time, but I need to absorb a soul from a dead human body first. Fortunately, I can always find a couple if I look hard enough.

I'm replaying the Halo 4 campaign, but now on Heroic difficulty (hard mode) and with three skulls (they alter gameplay) to spice things up. I just landed on the Forerunner planet. I'm still playing the multiplayer, but it seems I have off days now and then. Sometimes I rack up over thirty kills a match, sometimes I get dominated.

In Overlord II, I found the green minions. They're my favorite minions because they're the second toughest (after the browns), but can turn invisible and backstab enemies for critical damage. They can also remove poison gas too. I try to make sure that my minions don't die often because even though they're expendable, I only have so many in reserve.

Been playing Dishonored on the Xbox and just finished up my second run of InFamous 2, really sad to see Cole's story end.

Bleach: Soul Resurrection
Man, despite how much fun I was having playing through this game the fact that the story mode is so short, and there are only a lump sum of characters really holds this back consider now that I'm playing Warriors Orochi 3. Unfortunately, I'll be getting rid of this shortly.

Warriors Orochi 3
Where have you been all my life? No doubt after Dynasty Warriors 4, and after playing the first Samurai Warriors I was pretty much done with this type of game. But I guess you can say it was thanks to Bleach: SR that renewed my interest in this style of game because I'm having a blast with it. Even though I had this game for a few months now, I'm just now getting to it (putting the fighting games on hold). The team stuff took a couple of minutes to get used to, along with buying weapons and whatnot. Just not used to that sorta stuff in this type of game. I have to admit that I only bought this game because Ryu Hayabusa is in it, however, I am surprised to see that you're starting of as Ma Chao instead Zhao Yun. Anyway, now that I've started to unlock more characters I think I'm really starting to have fun now. Right now I'm getting ready to head into battle with Ma Chao, Yukimura Sanada, and Zhou Tai. I actually can't wait till I unlock Zhao Yun because I want to take Zhou Tai out and add him.

Edit:

Just got Ryu Hayabusa, and, my goodness he's good. Him along with Ayane might be a little overpowered for this game, but whatever. They're fun to play. Ryu's izuna drop, WOW. Umm, I did a little searching at gamefaqs, and I'm kinda surprised to see that Hijikata's not in the game. I can't remember if he's a real person or not,but still, considering that you have all these figures in one game, I thought he'd make it for sure. Anyway, I'm probably having way more fun than I should be. Makes me want to check out Sengoku Basara the series.

I'm doing pretty good in Doom 3: Ressurection of Evil. I found the super shotgun, plasma gun, and rocket launcher. I've also defeated the second and third bosses: the Beserker Hunter and the Invincibility Hunter. My Artifact absorbed their powers and now I can slow time, kill anything with one punch, and become invincible when I use the Artifact. This makes fighting tough enemies ridiculously easy. However, now the game is throwing even more enemies at me! Good thing I can quicksave.

I'm doing great in Halo 4's multiplayer this week. I was playing Big Team Infinity Slayer on the popular map, Ragnarok. It's a big, open, colorful map, with a variety of vehicles to use. I was using the armor ability, active camouflage and was trying to be stealthy. For the most part, I was being a team player; disabling enemy vehicles with my plasma pistol to give my team an advantage. Once I found a rocket launcher, I started to get aggressive. Things got even better when I found an inceneration cannon. I was practically a one man army; taking out enemies whether they were on foot or in vehicle. By the time the match was over, my team won, I racked up 35 kills, and I had a blast doing it.

In Overlord II, I had a boss fight with the queen spider that sunk my ship. It was a fun boss battle, despite losing quite a few minions. Now that the queen spider is dead, my green minions can ride the giant spiders; allowing them to climb walls and do extra damage. It's actually kinda cute hearing my minions praise their mounts while riding them.

On my iPad, I've been playing Where's my Water?, Punch Quest, Clay Jam, and Middle Management Justice. They're really fun and help pass the time. Where's my Water? is a puzzle game where you direct water to Swampy the alligator so he can take a bath. Punch Quest is a neverending fake-retro running game where you run through a fortress punching anything in your way. Clay Jam is a game where you roll down hills to squash clay monsters to reconstruct the ravaged hills with their clay (it's hard to describe). Middle Management Justice is a management game where you run a company that hires superheroes to train them and send them on missions.

I've been playing Transformers War for Cybertron and NBA 2k13.

Transformers - I love online play. My top character is the scientist. What I usually do is fly towards the battlefield, transform mid-air and set the turret. Then, I'll attack my opponent and create space so that he has to make a choice. If he attacks me, his back is turned to the turret, so that takes him out. If he goes for the turret, I go for him. It's a fun strategy. I plan on picking up the sequel, but I enjoy this one so much.

NBA 2k13 - Myplayer. Best one by far. I was originally with Boston, but through a requested trade, I'm now with Miami. My record is 50-21 I think. I've been simulating games. Don't really feel like playing every single one like I did in the previous 2k game. I play point guard, sometimes shooting guard. Once in a while, they put me at small and power forwards. I prefer assisting overall. I'll get my points, but getting everyone involved. If anyone ever wanted to play professional basketball but know it's just a dream, this is the game for you!

I've been playing Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for the 3DS. It's a pretty fun game, although some of the games requiring me to tilt my system can be kind of difficult, especially the BMX challenges. The storyline does seems a lot shorter than I thought it would be since I cleared through it in just a couple of days and I'm currently working on the bonus chapters right now. It's still pretty enjoyable though.

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. I've finished Sora's side, and am now doing Riku's.

Warriors Orochi 3
Just a brief update

Chapter 3 with both Shuten Doji and Da Ji on my side now. I ended up taking out a Hydra head and well, ran into Orochi and Susano. Speaking of Susano, OMG! I remember being scared to fight Lu Bu in the Dynasty Warriors games, but my goodness, Susano takes it to another level. He's much faster than the most of the characters (I had to use Ryu to catch up to him and even then I still wasn't really able to catch up to him since he was able to catch up to Da Ji), and hits harder than Lu Bu. He nearly took out 2 of my characters, and I'm only playing only Easy. Oh yeah, forgot, he don't feel pain.

Oh, my team is Ryu, Zhou Tai and Yukimura Sanada. I tried Masamune Date, and while he's quite the damaging character, his style don't fit with me.

I've been playing lots of iPad games lately. Here's my list: Punch Quest, Where's My Water?, Clay Jam, Infinity Blade, Middle Manager of Justice, Pocket God, Jetpack Joyride, Subway Surf, The Walking Dead (episode 1), and Pitfall HD.

I'm progressing very well in Halo 4's campaign on Heroic difficulty. It's harder than before and I've been dying a more often, but I'm progressing. For some reason, Spartan Ops on multiplayer seems to be stuck on the hardest difficulty, Legendary. Everyone on my team keeps on dying. Thank goodness for respawning.

I've been replaying some games I haven't played in a while. Blur is a racing game that, to me, is a combination of Mario Kart (power-ups) and Need For Speed (real cars). I favor muscle cars and sports cars, but I'll use any car with good speed and traction.

NBA Jam is one of my favorite basketball games. I got the Xbox 360 version cheap back in October ($19.99). My brother and I love playing this together (he pretty much only plays sports and racing games. I'm more of an all-rounder, but I'm mostly into shooters and beat-em ups/hack and slash). My favorite parts are the over-the-top slam dunks and the enthusiastic announcer. *swish* BOOMSHAKALAKA!

At my cousin's house, we played Mortal Kombat (2011) and Madden NFL 13. I stink at Madden; I can never get the hang of the controls (Blitz: The League is much easier to get the hang of if you ask me.) This was the first time I played the new Mortal Kombat game and I enjoyed every minute of it (at least when was winning). I'm not really into fighting games, but this one was an exception. The controls are smooth and easy to figure out. The move list even shows how to do the fatalities, so no more guessing. My favorite fighters were Sub Zero, Kabal, Stryker, and Jax. I like this game so much, I'm planning on getting Injustice: Gods Among Us, which is an upcoming fighting game made by the same studio. It's coming out in April.

Finally found some time to dedicate to Persona 4.
Rescued Rise.
Don't know if it's a spoiler or not, so I'll treat it like one.

Didn't know that. Explains the awesome music for both :)

Speaking of Tales, I'm back playing Tales of Phantasia GBA. On the final boss, and whoo boy, is it proving to be difficult.

I'm not on Xbox Live. Would it be worth getting gold memberships for Spartan Ops?

Spartan Ops is pretty fun. It continues the story after the Halo 4 campaign. You can play by yourself, or with 3 other players in co-op against the Covenant and the Prometheans. People who play it are generally team players; I never been betrayed once! 343 industries will keep on adding new episodes until late 2013. Regular multiplayer is also great. Did your Halo 4 copy come with a free two weeks of gold membership? Try it out yourself and determine whether you want full gold membership.

Back on track, now that the Spring semester has started, I'm back on campus without my Xbox 360. However, my campus's technology center has a public Xbox 360, but you have to bring your own games and controllers. I brought with me Blur, Rayman Origins, and NBA Live 2010 (all multiplayer games just in case).

This week on my iPad, I've been playing Subway Surfers, Jetpack Joyride, Pitfall HD, Metal Storm, Slam Dunk King, Solitare, The Last Driver, and Babel Rising 3D.

Finally finished Fallout: New Vegas.
I got the game about two months after it came out, and finally finished my first playthrough of it (and all its DLC) last night.

Right now, I'm trying to finish Chrono Trigger (DS).
I'm on like, the last chapter, so it shouldn't be too terribly long.

After a 7 month hiatus, I'm finally back into Terra's Story of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (PSP). It's hard to believe I bought it back in 2010 and I STILL haven't completed the first story yet! Right now, I'm trying to complete Terra's Command List with the meldings and such. I'm also still trying to get through the main challenges at the Mirage Arena. I need to get past Stitch's, Peter Pan's, & Winnie The Pooh's Command board Challenges to unlock the Secret Board.

I've also been trying out some of my latest PS3 game purchases. I've been really enjoying Toy Story 3 because of the unlockables and different missions. I also found Cars 2 to be very enjoyable because the different tracks and missions make the game very enjoyable. Also, LEGO Batman 2 is very good but I need plenty of help from a tip book to get through it.

WB has done so well with releasing the Paramount Popeye cartoons on home media that they should be chosen to distribute the long-delayed animated Popeye film that at various points was to be made by Sony and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (who has a long association with WB sister property Cartoon Network).

Today marks the 25th Year Anniversary of when Pokémon Crystal was released in North America. To this day, the Johto Games remain my favorite games in the Pokémon Franchise.
Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
