The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

Food and sleep are currently being replaced by Persona 4.

I've been playing Blur, Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, Rayman Origins, and Dante's Inferno on the public Xbox 360 at my campus's technology center. I tend to play the first three games I mentioned with other people at the center because those are four player games. I enjoy the audience I get when I play these games.

I am great at Blur; it's almost like no one that plays with me knows how to drive. I love embarrassing other players by picking bulky cars (such as the Ford Supervan and the Volkswagon) while everyone else picks a sports car and I still come in first. The AI in this game is great; half the time it's a computer controlled car that wins.

I bought Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition last week. Some of my favorites characters on Mortal Kombat are Jax, Stryker, Cyber Sub-Zero, and Mileena, but I can play well with any character with practice. One guy I play with always picks Kung Lao and constantly spams his teleport move. My solution is to simply block him and punch him out of the air. I'm going to play the Story Mode when come back home for Spring Break.

I noticed that Rayman Origins is the game that makes people's heads turn most often. It's probably the 2D cartoony artstyle. I already beat the game back home last year, so I know all the secret areas.

I bought Dante's Inferno yesterday. I only play it when no one else brings their controllers, so it won't look like I'm hogging the Xbox 360. I made it to the Lust circle of Hell and I try to absolve every enemy I can. My favorite parts are the boss battles and mini boss battles; especially the mini bosses since I can hop on their heads and control them once I do enough damage to them. Once I do, it's curbstomping time for my enemies!

Here's my current progress in KH:BBS (PSP)...

In Terra's story, I finally managed to clear at the Mirage Arena Winnie The Pooh's Command Board and I had just enough power in my PSP to clear Stitch's Command Board. I was able to earn about 700 medals and I went from Arena Level 13 to Arena Level 16! Quite an accomplishment!

I still need to clear Peter Pan's Command Board which is supposed to be the toughest one. Once I do, I'll be able to unlock the Secret Command Baord.

I still need to find the rest of the treasures and stickers, do some more melding for new attacks and abilities, and do a few more arena challenges before I make Terra go up against Xehanort. I DID create the Leaf Bracer ability but I need a few more abilities if I'm ever to beat him.

It'll still be a while before I play the stories of both Ventnus & pretty Aqua.

EDIT: I just cleared Peter Pan's Command Board and unlocked the Secret Command Board. I also went up to Arena Level 17, unlocked a new Arena Battle, and created Terra's Ice Slide ability through melding.

Also, I got into more of Toy Story 3 (PS3) and finally managed to clear the Train Rescue challenge and complete a few missions.

Plus, I started playing Soul Caliber V (PS3) and got through the first 4 episodes in the main story. I was also able to pull off the first of 50 "Ring Out" finishes. This game is terrific so far.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb (XBox). If it weren't for a sluggish, clunky combat system and some questionable jumping/grabbing ledges mechanics, I'd love the game. It has that Indy atmosphere and the tomb raiding fills a void when there are no new Tomb Raider games to play. Perhaps most importantly, it feels like one of the movies, sort of like how the Ghostbusters video game (PS3/360) felt like a third GB movie.

Man, I love that game. I played through it a couple times until I got all the achievements for it. I just like how the game constantly tops itself, just when you think things can't get any crazier or creepier you reach the next circle and it's more memorable than the last one.

As for myself, I've been playing through Resident Evil 6. I can understand some of the hate this games gets-it's not nearly as good as 4 or 5 were, and it is frustrating that a lot of the time, instead of fighting zombies, you're having gun battles. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Gears of War, but the cover system is awful as well, and just feels unnatural. In fact, I don't even feel like ducking behind cover to avoid bullets is something you should even be doing in a Resident Evil game. But, all that aside, I really am enjoying it. I really like that there are four separate campaigns, each playing a little differently. I can't complain about RE6 being a short game, that's for sure. Leon's campaign was easily the best, and if they had just expanded it and put all the effort they put into the other three campaigns into it, we could have had a very good game on our hands. As it stands, I like it, and it's an interesting take on the RE franchise, but I do hope the developers paid attention to the criticisms this game received and make RE7 a much better game.

On a side note, I'm kind of getting tired of every game these days being Co-op. For same games, it's awesome, but for games like RE, I feel like it's a much better experience playing alone. The whole survival horror thing, you know.

Playing the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Demo on PS3. It's a great game so far. Can't wait to play the full game. A very good addition to the Metal Gear series.

I'm currently playing Spyro: Year of the Dragon on PS3's PS1 Classics line. I wonder why so many people say the non-Spyro characters are so terrible, I don't really see a huge problem with them.

Instead of waiting for Spring Break, I decided to play the Story Mode of Mortal Kombat (2011) at my campus's technology center today. I only did chapter one today, where I played as Johnny Cage. Johnny's moves and combos are pretty easy to learn; my favorite is the Nut Punch. The next chapter has me playing as Sonya Blade, but that's for another day. I gained quite an audience watching me play the story.

On my iPad, I've been playing Angry Birds: Rio, Where's my Water?, Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2, Pocket God, Slam Dunk King, Gesundheit, Amazing Ants, Infectonator, and Slender Rising (The free version. Not sure if I want to pay for the full version.)

I've been making some progress on a few of my PS3 games. Here's what I've done:

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection: I collected the first Chaos Emerald at Green Hill Zone, Stage 1 in Sonic The Hedgehog and I earned 1000 Yen in Alex Kidd. I'm still working on: getting 1.5 million points in Stage 1 of Super Thunder Blade, getting 10 million points in Level 1 of Sonic Spinball, getting 20,000 points on Easy Mode in Columns, and reaching Mission 3 without using a continue in Alien Storm to unlock the classic Alien Syndrome game.

Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing: I managed o clear a few missions which I'll replay to earn some AAA ratings later. Plus, I won my first Grand Prix race, I made a new Time Trial record, and I earned enough mileage points to unlock Space Channel 5's lovely Ulala whom I love playing with!

Jak & Daxter Collection--Jak & Daxter: I got everything at Geyser Rock, I exchanged 90 orbs to Jak's uncle for a Power Cell, and I managed to grab 200 pounds of fish for the fisherman which gave me the boat to get to Misty Island later. The game is still fantastic on the PS3!

I still need to get back into KIngdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep because I'm still trying to finish Terra's story. I'm getting closer to beating the Secret Command board game. I DID manage to beat Hercules at the "Break The Urn" challenge and I unlocked 2 more songs in the "Ice Cream Beat" challenge. I still can't wait to play as pretty Aqua!

Because of my PS3 breaking I haven't played Assassin's Creed 3 despite having it since November. That changed yesterday so I just started it. So far it's...nice to look at but it was boring me to the point I was falling asleep but was still able to walk around for a bit( 22 years of gamer reflexes I guess :D ). Anyway I wasn't really giving it the go I should have since I was more testing out my new PS3 but that will change today.

So, I've been on a Western RPG spree after getting addicted to Skyrim last year. After spending countless hours with that, I moved onto Borderlands and Mass Effect. I personally prefer the former. Because while Mass Effect gives you so many options on how to play, the charm of Borderlands can't be beat. To me, it has a lot more personality. I beat the first one last night, and moved onto 2. The gameplay, as well as the writing are a huge step above the prequel. Everything Handsome Jack says has me rolling on the floor.

Tried out demos in between sessions of AC3. Dead Space 3, Ni No Kuni, Metal Gear Rising, Sly Cooper, and DMC. Sly Cooper is more of the same and that's great, they don't make em like this anymore and I missed the gang. Ni No Kuni I was hoping to be good and it was, I didn't like that it was a timed demo( don't see the point in that ) but other than that it was fun.

Dead Space was okay but while more of the same can be good for a dormant property like Sly, it's the opposite for a a 5 year old franchise like Dead Space and then I got stuck on a puzzle. Not sure if something was going on but I had enough. It was okay but unlike the other two it wouldn't be an instant purchase. DMC was...meh. It had it's moments but I did have to reconfigure the controls to match the old games as much as possible, whoever mapped the controls needs to give their head a shake as it was awkward half the time. And I just finished MGR and...that was rough. I don't know if I've been gone from games like that for too long but I didn't like it at all. The blade mode is awkward and seeing that it's a big part of the game it really needs to be tighter. And wow the difficulty spikes are going to be a problem. I couldn't beat that dog thing, not even close. Just seems like there's all these controls for moves that are almost totally ineffective. Still just demos so maybe the actual games will be better or at least ease in better.

AC3 is fine but I can see it's more AC1 rather than AC2 which is been the high point of this series.

Earlier this month up until last weekend I was tackling Fire Emblem Blazing Sword, the first GBA FE game to come to America in anticipation for Fire Emblem Awakening. I finally beat it after all these years, albiet not on hard mode and not the second story with Hector rather than Eliwood.

Now I'm playing the living daylights out of Awakening. There's so much more you can do in this game than in previous FE's I've played and the class and support systems are way better than how they were in those previous FE games. It's more convenient to shop and train units as well so you have a lot more freedom to do what you want instead of limiting yourself as much as you had to in other games where EXP was sparse and spreading it thinly meant weak units all around. Normal is a tinge easier than Blazing Sword but mostly due to the support system offering so much edge for units.

I also get a huge kick out of some of the support conversations, they can be charming and even hilarious at times. The part of me that likes slice of life romantic comedies can't get enough of this stuff. The characters are so awkward about romance you'd swear they were all in Jr. High. It makes you wonder how they can go from barely getting along to marriage based on some of those support conversations.

Since finishing Persona 4 and Sly 3, I've been testing out the demo for Fire Emblem: Awakening, and I've got a feeling this is going to make me wanna find the other games in the series.
The demo itself I played through four times last night.

Other than that, I've been trying to finish the first Epic Mickey.
I'm on like the last quarter of the game.

I've been playing mainly Dead Space 2 last week. I'm on chapter 9 and I'm really enjoying it. The action has really escalated compared to the first game. Issac moves faster, there are more types of enemies (my favorites are the Stalkers and the Pack), and you can now fly in zero-gravity instead of jumping. I like how Issac now talks and has a face. It makes him feel more like his own character. The game made me jump a few times, but I can't enjoy the game's atmosphere to its full potential because I have to play on the public Xbox 360 at my campus's tech center with the lights on.

I also played a little more of Dante's Inferno as well. I'm past the Forest of Suicides. Now that my cross is incredibly powerful, I'm working on increasing my unholy meter to power up my scythe.

On my iPad, I've been playing Where's my Water?, Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2, Jetpack Joyride, Gesundheit, and Pixel People.

It may very well spur you to track down the other games available in America but good freak'n luck with that. I've been trying to find Shadow Dragon for the DS and the Wii and GCN games lately and I've come up deuces on all fronts. I did find a copy of Sacred Stones for GBA at a local game specialty store but thankfully I still have the two GBA games available here. Ambassador 3DS owners got Sacred Stones, it's too bad they still wont let people buy it on the eShop.

So, I've been playing Tales of Eternia and I beat it in the past hour or so.

Great game, shame the PSP version never got released in the US.

I finished Dead Space 2 this week. Looking back, I enjoyed the game and thought it was worth my money. I'm done with it for now.

In Mortal Kombat (2011)'s story mode, I'm on chapter 8, which is Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero has a damaging combo that's easy to learn and his ice powers are great for keeping enemies in place. The downside is that if you freeze someone from a long distance, they'll defrost before you can get close. Fortunately, hitting a frozen enemy with an ice ball will damage and defrost them at the same time.

On my iPad, I've been playing Where's my Water?, Early Bird, Early Bird and Friends, Slam Dunk King, Subway Surfers, The Moron Test 2, and Letters from Nowhere.

Ran a set in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 against my brother-in-law recently. While it was indeed a massacre (he beat me 15-5), but the way I look at it, considering I haven't been able to practice the game at all (and it showed), due to work, I did a lot better than I thought I'd do. My best character is definitely Vergil. I got a lot of work to do with Spencer since I don't know his buttons that well. I kept doing crouching light instead of standing light and that kept messing me up as well. My Hawkeye could also use some work as well since I couldn't remember his combos. Anyway, I probably won't go back to practice the game though since I'm mainly focused on Super Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter x Tekken.

It's been a while since I've played Darksiders 2 so I'm starting that up again. Last time I played the game I recall leaving off at beating a boss at the 1st dungeon (or 2nd).

Lego Lord of the Rings and it is HILARIOUS. It's a little weird to hear the legos talk, but they lighten up the game pretty well. Like Boromir getting killed by a banana and a push broom or Legolas hinting to Galadriel that he wants a bow for a present.

But the best thing has to be all the easter eggs. Frodo's elven cloak turns him into a MGS box, and if you dive off Weathertop, the Assassin's Creed leap of faith animation plays.
