The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

I picked up Super Mario World for Wii U Virtual Console yesterday. Since I've played through the game a number of times, I decided to do a speed run this time, except going through every level (no skipping around). It took me roughly 2 1/2 hours to beat the game, and I had 90 lives at the end. Others have probably done a lot better than this, but I still think this was a decent speed run.

Been playing a little bit more of DmC: Devil May Cry. There's really nothing I can add to what I've already said previously about the game. I'm getting better with the combat.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
About 15 minutes ago, I saw a pad player using Dante and Spencer beat probably the best player in the game, and that motivated me to pick Dante back up, not to mention go back to my regular team of Dante, Vergil, Hawkeye. Not only will I be using the Dante, Vergil shell, but I'll be throwing Nova on that team as well as Spencer.

Black Rock Shooter the Game and Fate/Extra are the only two games I've bought in forever. I'm really enjoying them both and I like their music. I don't really have any complaints about them to be honest. I'm going to beat BRS before I finally get around to beating F/E though.

After a few weeks of sitting on the shelf (or, drawer, rather),
I finally started Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Very happy I can re-fight normal enemies to help level up my characters, because many of my characters are always getting knocked out (ahem Miriel).

And I (also finally) started Bioshock 2.

I've been making some pretty good progress in KH:BBS, Ven's Story. Here's what I've accomplished recently:

I just completed the Deep Space area which inclued finding all the treasures and both stickers. I also picked up the Pulse Bomb Shotlock and 2 new finish commands. I was also able to level up Ven to level 32.

Next time, I'll try and win the Deep Space command board game and then get Ven the Chaos Snake Shotlock from DisneyTown's Fruitball Challenge before I head off to Neverland.

Lately, I decided to revisit my Castlevania games.
I've got all three of the GBA games, and all three of the DS games.

I finished my second playthrough of Circle of the Moon a while ago,
and last night I finished my second playthrough of Harmony of Dissonance.
I don't have a set date for when I start a new playthrough of Aria of Sorrow, just whenever I feel like it, I guess.

I've been playing Subway Surf on my iPhone. It's a lot like Temple Run, but it's easier. For one you essential stay on a linear path with no tight corner turns. It's also more colorful and cute. I recommend it, especially because it's free!

Here's my current progress in KH: BBS, Ven's Story...
I just completed Neverland. Capt. Hook was very difficult because of his sword-slash attacks, but I managed to beat him.
The only area left is the Keyblade Graveyard, but it'll be a while before I get to it because of so many Mirage Arena missions and Command Board games to complete.

I'm still dedicating my playtime on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS) but I plan to switch to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity soon.

The first Mass Effect. I got the trilogy pack for my PS3, so now I can see what's the big deal about this series.

Tomb Raider. I only caught a few parts when my brother played it but I missed most of it so I figured I'd do my own playthrough. I've never actually finished a TR game before but I figured this one is Uncharted lite so I said why not :D One thing I hate though is they found a way to make QTE even more unnecessary and irritating. Can developers just drop this nonsense already.

I think I'm done with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Last time I played a set with my brother-in-law (bout a week or 2 ago) I got real salty about my losses. Fun set, but I hate the fact that you can just mash your way out of every situation and get away with it. Seriously, who needs defense when all you have to do is mash crouching light. Then I hate that Zero out prioritizes everyone in the game (I HATE HIM). Not to mention that it's pretty broken now. Ranting aside, I'm going back to a game that I feel is more controlled.

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition
I decided to play some matches online against my better judgment about 2 days ago, and what I learned was that I need to drop Cody and pick up Ken. I like Cody's rushdown, but he has no get off me move, and I tend to crack and get opened up a lot. I'm also going to pick Cammy and Ibuki back up (top tier, whatever. They're fun). I'm not really mad about my losses. I'm more mad that I kept dropping my combos with Cody. For the most part I usually hit my combos with him since they're fairly easy to pull off, but for some reason my execution sucked, so that proved that I definitely need to stop thick-headed and leave pad alone and fully commit to using my fight stick.

DmC: Devil May Cry
I haven't tried it yet, but I ended up getting Vergil's Downfall. I think I'll play that over finishing up the rest of the story because I'm getting a little bored. Honestly, I rather fight the way I want than being forced to use a specific type of weapon to defeat said demon. I think that's why I think I'll like VD over the actual game. Vergil has more freedom to fight the way he wants. It's just too bad that his side of the story is so short. I think it's even shorter than MGR:R

I'm slowly working my way through Alice: Madness Returns on PS3, which is much more polished than the predecessor American McGee's Alice. That game screamed "third person platformer slapped over a FPS engine", and the controls could be wonky as a result. But I have no issues with the controls for Madness.

It's also a game chock full of eye candy and visual variety, a nice alternative to "real is brown". And I like how the gameplay is varied so it's an even mix of platforming and hack-and-slash combat. You're not just hopping around all the time, and conversely, you don't have endless amounts of button mashing against waves of enemies either. Best of all, many enemies require different strategies to defeat them, so you're not doing the same thing over and over.

The game definitely has a dark tone, but thankfully not so dark that you're drawn out of the experience. There's still some British wit, and considering the title, I was expecting a lot worse.

I liked that game, too.

As for me, I'm going back and forth between ZombiU, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Tomb Raider: Legend.

Batman: Arkham City
Hmm.... I'm pretty much near the end. I'm at the Steel Mill. Don't know if it's because of me playing on normal or not, but compared to my first playthrough, I'm not fatigued with the game. I remember I was pretty much ready for the game to be over by the time I got to Ra's. I have tackled some of these side quests, and, yeah, they're practically a waste of time (I actually wanted to fight Bane). I am having a bit of fun messing with some of these goons during stealth, especially when it comes to using the disruptor.

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition
Ran a set with my brother-in-law. I'm not too mad, although, it's weird how everytime I decide to play him I get these barrage's of interruptions. Anyway, we had some good games, almost epic. I won and few, but he ended up winning the set. Cody is no longer my best character. Cammy is, although though she's kind of an auto-pilot (brain-dead) character. As much as I want to use Guy, I don't think I'm going to main him at all. Hardly did anything against my brother-in-law with him even though I spent majority of my time in training mode as him. I don't like Guy vs shoto's at all. My Ibuki improved since the last time, but even then I got bopped when I tried to use her. I think this actually tells me that I need to focus on Cammy and Evil Ryu (possibly Oni).

Also, SSF4 is back up to being the my #1 favorite game. Despite the constant losses, and the raging, I do have a blast with this game, especially when I actually see the improvements. Now if only I can actually commit to using a fight stick and actually get into training mode.

Just messing around with RE: Director's Cut and Castlevania SOTN. When I got a new PS3 it obviously didn't have my old saves so I figured why not. Besides I'm just biding time until Friday anyway :D.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
I got my building permit and my first house upgrade since I bought the game on Sunday.
Considering how many things you can fund in this game, I'm happy that money has been made a touch easier to obtain for this game.
After about an hour or so of shark-fishing, I already had my first house down-payment and my first bridge construction already fully funded.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

Well, I finally I manged to get the hang of the controls and I managed to get my first Comet Star by defeating the Cone Goombas at World 1-1. Then, I went back to Decalburg to free Toad from under the Main Square Fountain and unlocked the Sticker Museum. Finally, I went back to Surfshine Harbor and was able to collect the Vacuum and a Frog Suit sticker for the museum. This game is great so far. There's a lot of missions and side-missions to accomplish throughout the game!

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep

After about 10 tries, I used my Lightning Ray Shotlock ability to finally defeat Vanitas and finish Ven's story. I also managed to earn a few trophies for: walking 100,000 steps, defeating 100,000 enemies, and getting over 80 hours of gameplay. I'll do some more side-missions later. Now, it's on to Aqua's story! I've been waiting for this as I understand her story is the most challenging of the three. My first stop will be Cinderella's area.

Super Street Fighter 4: AE2012
I tried playing this online yesterday, and I got bodied. I ran into a few trolls, but at the same time I also ran into some nice folks as well. I will say that I've come a long way since I don't get discouraged after losing so much. I'm seeing why I lost, and it's due to me not being able to maximize the damage. I know how to approach my opponent, and land hits. I'm just piss poor at combos, especially when it comes to using a regular DS controller. My fingers get lost and then I lose my train of thought in what I want to do, but other than that, yeah, it was some intriguing games. I also ran into this A rank Fei Long player that goes by the name Combo Jack. I think he's a tourney player because that name looks very familiar to me. He played like one too, because I got bodied hard. It's weird, I was expecting to run into a crap load of Ryu players since he's the #1 character that's played the most, but I ended up running into a variety of characters. Good stuff.

Batman: Arkham City
I think I've reached the point of becoming fatigued with the game again. Catwoman working with Poison Ivy. Honestly, I dread having to sneak around stealing stuff with her, especially when her gadgets aren't nowhere near is as good as Batman's. Personally, I'd rather prefer her to not be a playable character. I hope Batman: AO won't have any moments where I have to sneak and steal (especially off of people), because that just "argh".

I've been pushing through Borderlands 2. You see, I can't play games online. I also hate grinding and am not a big fan of loot hunting. So... that's three strikes against this game right off the bat. I shouldn't have bought it, but I shouldn't have bought Borderlands either. I bought them both at the same time, beat the first game, and then sat on the second for well over a month before I decided to finally start playing it. It seems to have more of a story than the first game, but it's still primarily a grind and loot affair which doesn't interest me at all. In hindsight, I'm not really sure why I bought them in the first place since I knew in advance that it wasn't my type of game. Oh well.

Today marks the 25th Year Anniversary of when Pokémon Crystal was released in North America. To this day, the Johto Games remain my favorite games in the Pokémon Franchise.
Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
