So, I found Code Veronica X, RE 0, REmake, the GameCube versions of RE 2 and 3, and both Resident Evil Outbreaks.
Plowed through Code Veronica already. Still as awesome as ever, but for some reason this has alway been the one I'm most likely to get hopelessly lost on without a clue of where to go, and I got stuck a few times with aimless wandering before I figured it out. Also, I forgot that the last fight is just a cutscene. I was all hyped to blow the hell out of Wesker, but I had to be satisfied with just watching Chris scar his face and hurt his feelings.
Now I'm near the end of RE 0 and I'm remembering why it's one of my least favorites. They might have thought that getting rid of item boxes was more realistic, but what it creates in practice is an item-management nightmare. You can drop stuff, so basically you end up finding a save room and just littering the floor with crap. But you can only drop so much in one room, so at one point I had three connecting rooms with junk laying about. That's tidy and convenient. There's also a lot backtracking because you have to go all the way back to where you dropped something to get it. And you have to make runs a couple of times specifically to shift all of your needed items to more convenient locations, then drop the on the floor there. It's just a mess, which is a shame because it's a pretty game with a nice challenge and an okay story.
The bosses are a bit uninspired, though. For plot reasons they follow RE 1 where most of them are just huge animals, but huge animals aren't that scary. And the early version of the coop system had a lot of kinks to work out. A partner is often a hindrance, because they don't do a good job of defending themselves, and they will actually get in your way when you're trying to do things like push a block.
Next will probably be REmake, but because I so recently played the original RE I might use the infinite rocket launcher I unlocked the last time I played to speed through it. It was hard to get, might as well use it.
Then I may take a crack at the Outbreaks, but they're really hard and frustrating for me in solo play so I don't know how far I'll get in the,.
