The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

My week has been busy, but I've been able to blow some steam by playing Awesomenauts, Team Fortress 2, and Don't Starve.

Awesomenauts just came out with Patch 2.7: The Frozen Frontier. It greatly revamped the game mechanics and introduced a new awesomenaut: The Scoop of Justice. Scoop is a gelatinous knight who was made to be easy for beginners to play as. I also love his hammy, heroic voice. He sounds like a bit like the Tick. Scoop even borrows the Tick's battle cry (SPOOOOOON)! As for my gaming skills, I've been doing good for the past few weeks, but the new gameplay mechanics are throwing me off my game. I gotta adapt or I'll be screwed.

Now that it's the Halloween season again, Team Fortress 2 is now doing Scream Fortress once more. This time they're bringing back all the Halloween events from the previous years. I also got some free Halloween gear that I can only wear on Halloween or a full moon. I'm ready for some fights and frights.

In Don't Starve, my adventure mode campaign is going nowhere, so I decided to play some survival mode as Wickerbottom. I gathered a shipload of stuff, now I just need to find the perfect place for a settlement. I also need to craft some armor quick. In this game, unarmored players die fast. I'm lucky that I found a walking stick to help me run faster. The ingredients to make one are hard to find (mostly because they're attached to one of the most dangerous enemies in the game).

Finally starting to unlock things in Hyrule Warriors. Tried the horse today, though I have to admit it's kind of silly to be stomping around. Plus the camera goes crazy in tight spaces.

Since my last post here, I've been playing The Binding of Isaac, Team Fortress 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and Haunt the House: Terrortown.

In The Binding of Isaac, I beat the current final boss (Mom's Heart) for the third time. Since I was playing as Eve, I unlocked both the nail and razorblade items. As messed up as this game is, it's really fun. For my next playthrough, I'm planning to play as Judas. I also feel like getting the updated rerelease, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. The rerelease not only has more content, but sprite graphics instead of hand drawn ones and the ability to save mid-game. While I prefer hand drawn graphics, the ability to save mid-game sounds great because one playthrough can take hours. I might get it during a Steam sale.

Team Fortress 2's Scream Fortress event was great. There were Halloween exclusive game modes and I got a ton of Halloween themed items, weapons, and achievements. While Scream Fortress is almost over, we're allowed to wear Halloween clothing on full moons.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a sandbox game where you play as a survivor of a post-apocalyptic land. Gameplay is very tactical since you can't survive more than a few bullets, so don't think you can just plow through enemies like any other shooter game. I've already died numerous times, but the save system allows me to save at any point.

Haunt the House: Terrortown is a haunting simulator where you play as a little ghost who wants the town quiet, so he goes around town possessing stuff and scaring people into leaving. Every location has a fear meter and as more people get scared, the more complex and scarier frights you can pull off. This game is like a simpler, cuter, and more direct version of Ghost Master.

I've been playing all of my newly bought games. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Battleblock Theater, The Stanley Parable, Bleed, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, and Costume Quest. However, I want to talk about the game I've been playing the most recently: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is so much better than the original TBOI. It's new engine uses sprite graphics, which run much more smoothly than the original's flash-based engine. Now the gameplay is as fast-paced as it should have been. The difficulty has also been amped up, with some bosses being like something out of a bullet hell game. The best part is the loads and loads of new content. More items, more enemies, more playable characters, and so on. Since every playthrough is randomized, you never know what you will find. Even better is how different items and power ups can synergize with each other to make you powerful in ways you'd never thought of. There's tons of replay value with this game and I haven't even uncovered half of what the game has to offer.

Been playing a lot of Warriors Orochi 3 ultimate. And let me tell you it's not easy. And I kinda like Arcana Heart 3 Love Max!!!!! Though I wandered can arcana be duplicated so other girls have the same effects as the main cast? And why can't I switch arcana in simple mode?

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2
Went back to playing this just for the relieving some stress and anger. It's been a while since I've played it, but Eneru and Mihawk seem to do the trick in terms of bringing me back down. I may need to try Whitebeard and Garp for that sake as well. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
The Uncharted franchise has become quite the epic series for me. When it comes to needing to calm down, this game don't do that for me. It's the opposite due to all the epicness in the game. I go from being angry to getting hyped/pumped up. I'm hoping 1-3 gets a PS4 upgrade or something before Uncharted 4 is released. Anyway, Currently on chapter 2 (I just started playing).

I may start up Infamous. I know the last time I attempted to play it I didn't give it much of a chance. Something about it felt off. We'll see.

Edit:

Ultra Street Fighter 4
Had fun but I'm salty. It's been a good while since I've actually played a match against anyone (mainly been doing training mode and getting bored) and since my brother-in-law and sister are in town we decided to fire it up. I actually did fairly well against his Ryu with my Guy (after all this time trying to train as Cody, Guy turns out to be my best character). His Ken is a beast though, although he kept doing scrubby tactics that I couldn't react to but could see through his tactics clear as day. I still have to work on my punish combos (basic combos as well). You could tell we were rusty. We didn't try Omega mode or Edition select. Didn't really feel like being bothered with it to be honest.

Edit2:

Ultra Street Fighter 4
Tried going through trials as Ryu, Evil Ryu and Yun. While there was suppose to be new trials for everyone, turns out it was for only new characters (+ Evil Ryu, Oni, Yun and Yang). I understand it probably would've taken forever to change all of the older characters trials, but the combos that are in the trials aren't optimal outside of probably the 1st 2 or 3. And even then trying to go through that stuff with the dull music is awful (I know I'm repeating myself again), and on top of that the links really kill my interest. I'll watch USF4 be played all day, but I don't have the time to dedicate in learning how to nail these links (counting frames and whatnot is something I have no interest in). Even Ryu's simplest of combos give me woes. This is where I turn to those games that just let you go such as SF3, GG and BBCP. The freedom.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
I nearly raged quit when it came to driving a jet ski through the stream. Not only do you not get the grenade launcher, but you get some sort of pistol. Fighting the water, fighting the barrels and fending off not getting shot by some goon with a grenade launcher... ARGH! Then I remember watching a let's play and it reminded me that you have to fight off some garbage after you get through all that. I'm sitting here wondering if I really want to go through all of that. Great game don't get me wrong, but it certainly pisses me off a lot.

Samurai Warriors 4
Another mindless fun game for me. Though I am a little disappointed with just 5 chapters per group.

I've been playing New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the last few days. I already beat the game, although there are a few hidden worlds and levels that I haven't gotten to yet. I also went back to playing Yoshi's New Island to cover more of that game.

Lately I've been playing my iOS games on my iPad. I didn't have my laptop (or Internet) for a few days and I wanted to pass the time when there was nothing better to do.

Two games I've been especially playing lately are Detective Grimoire and Plague Inc..

Detective Grimoire is a point-and-click game where you're tasked with solving a murder mystery. The game's animation and music are pretty nice and it only took me a few days to solve the mystery.

In Plague Inc., I played the Christmas scenario where all the countries in the world have outlawed happiness and it's up to the neurax worm parasite to spread happiness by infecting every single human. Controlling a mind control parasite is much different than a regular plague because you're able to direct where the disease spreads. I beat the scenario on my first try.

Halo: Combat Evolved
It feels real good to play this game again (turns out that my Xbox was overheating due to being on the floor; doh), because lord knows I was starting to grow real bored of the ps3 at the moment. I'm playing the Anniversary version for the XB360. Just started.

Even with playing Halo I still think it might be that time for me to just upgrade to both the PS4 and XB1 because a lot of these games I've been playing, or attempting to play haven't been all that satisfying and at the same time I want to start making room for the newer consoles. To see that developers are constantly doing extended editions for a lot of the games that came out in the previous gen makes me a happy camper because I don't mind re-buying games for this gen.

Anyway, now that I can start playing Xbox games again I'll pretty much be playing the Halo series along with the Gears of War series. Maybe I'll throw in Bioshock and/or Crisis for good measure.

I made an interesting discovery in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and wanted to share it.

There's this item called the Lost Contact that allows your projectiles to block enemy projectiles. It's great for keeping you from getting hit, but that's not the cool part. It's this combination: Lost Contact + high fire rate + long range + enemy with rapid fire = Dragonball Z style beam-o-war battles!

I never knew this was possible, but I had a blast doing them. The first time I did it was against a doppelgänger enemy and I won because my fire rate was slightly faster. The second time was against the boss, It Lives. It Lives and I were too equally matched, but fortunately he stopped firing and switched to another attack.

Since every playthrough in this game randomized, who knows when I'll experience something like that again?

My sister got me The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for Christmas. I've been playing that quite a bit lately.

Recently, I've been playing Skullgirls amongst other games. I don't play many fighting games outside of the Mortal Kombat franchise, but I was interested in Skullgirls because of its unique characters and smooth hand drawn animation. I'm still trying to get the hang of the controls, but I'm getting better.

My top 3 favorite characters in Skullgirls are Big Band, Peacock, and Squigly. Big Band because of his smooth voice and use of musical instruments as weapons, Peacock because she's basically a reality warping toon character, and Squigly because of dat booty of hers :p. However, I'm willing to use all the characters because they're so different from each other in both playstyle and looks.

Got into Saints Row 3 and it's even better than Saints Row 2 by a mile.

And DOTA 2, but taking a break from it - too many bad matches lately.

Bravely Default

Not nearly as good as the other resident 3DS SRPG Fire Emblem: Awakening, but a nice time waster nontheless.

Bought Super Metroid for my Super Nintendo just the other day. Right now I have gotten the wave and grapple beams last time I got on.

In Skullgirls, I've been playing Big Band's story mode. I was able to whoop everyone in my way. And then I got the final boss: the skullgirl herself, Bloody Marie. Boy, is she hard. She has so much health and does so much damage. At best, I've been able to nearly finish her off before she loses it and annihilates me. I'm gonna need to get better at playing if I'm gonna stand a chance.

In Awesomenauts, I had a three game winning streak and then a three game losing streak. Personally, I say that's better than I used to be. I can't wait for the next patch update because there's gonna a new Awesomenaut, Nibb. Nibb is a space dragon who looks like a female version of Spyro. She looks like she's gonna be fun to play.

I have been tearing it up in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. So far, I unlocked 148 of the 178 items and achievements. My next task is to unlock the secret character, The Lost. Unlocking him is not easy, though, and requires doing a lengthy puzzle that's based on luck. Plus, The Lost is a one-hitpoint wonder. However, The items unlocked from playing as The Lost are some of the most powerful in the game.

I've been going the old school route, really. Playing PSone games on my PS2 such as Bushido Blade & Tekken 3. Other than that I'm currently completing side missions in Shadows of Mordor on Xbox One and what not. I bought myself a Sega Dreamcast but I currently need games for it, wires as well.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
