"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

They have InuYasha #s 27 + 28 playing one week, then the following week, repeating #28 and keeping a straight order from there.

I like that SE will be at 1am, but I wonder how many TC fans will stay for the 1:30 time

Thundercats did great at 1:30, at 2:30 even. It might not crack millions at those later times but it still holds for itself quite strongly.

Yeah, I think that Thundercats will continue to do well regardless of what time it airs. It may not beat Naruto like it did that one week, but it will probably do well enough for itself.

It was kinda nice to have an american cartoon so early in the night. It was something to cling to after the bigger names in anime -Bleach and Naruto- called it a night. I have little doubt Soul Eater will do just fine at the 1a slot. Hopefully it will do as good as Thunder Cats.

Now all that's left to do is wait and see what Soul Eater is all about...

I asked them about it on the tumblr and they said it's an error. You can scroll down a bit to see it.

Ya know, it would be really kick-ass if Madoka would be on Toonami. If it ever would be, there would likely be a 1-minute promo that would not screw people around by misleading them. Because while I really like the story of it, I get sick of the way the way the show is either promoted or recommended. It's usually about trying to make it misleading and watching it through the, "episode 3 mark" and what-not. And it's not as if I don't get why fans do it or why Aniplex did it. But I came exposed to that show from the perspective of someone who depsite being interested in the idea of magical girls, is not as interested in how they're usually executed in telling a story. I kinda like Sailor Moon, kinda like Tokyo Mew Mew (at least when 4Kids had it), think Shugo Chara is okay, Precure is okay, and found Nanoha boring and in disbelief that an 8 year-old girl is a heroine. And so because of that, when not only my friend but most people who were watching the show and may have already been into the magical girl genre were recommending the show without saying anything about the show other than to watch through episode 3 and that it's a deconstruction of the genre, who were they hoping to get roped into it? You're not asking people to sit through a 5-minute Youtube video and see if it made you laugh. You're hoping people who may or may not be big fans of magical girls to invest into a 12-episode show while utterly blindfolding them.

At least if hypothetically speaking, Madoka Magica was on Toonami, a promo could exist for it that would not bs around with teasing people in such a vague way. I would not want it to of course spoil huge things, but at least say what the show is about in a compelling manner. That's kind of the edge for Toonami with most show that air, they make virtually any show seem interesting enough to want to take a look at it with a voice announcer and finl cut pro (assuming that's the software they use). Those promos can even help clear up what something is about. Take Spirited Away for instance. Some people have said how they weren't sure what it was about and wondered if maybe Miyazaki was beginning to lose it. However you see this Toonami promo of it, and it both gives you the gist while also drawing you to want to watch it (and god DAMN IT, I wanna know what the name of the music track is for that. And I know it's a remix of one of the original sound tracks for the film, but no one seems to know the name of that remixed version).

Gurren Lagann is on that poll. Did Aniplex US license-rescue it or something?

My first instinct is to ask for Durarara!! to air on Toonami, since I think it'd be perfect for the block.
But then I got tired of waiting for it to come back, and I went and collected it.

Hmm, you're right. Aniplex has the Gurren Lagann films, not the TV show. Hopefully, there was a behind-the-scenes deal.

Aniplex helped produce Gurren Lagann in Japan so they may be the default licensor.

That makes sense.

Now that I think about it, a show like Gurren Lagann on Toonami would be awesome.

I agree. TONS of action, fun characters, not really any filler, good pacing, and it could replace the Gundam void.

Gundam SEED, SEED Destiny, and 00 also had Aniplex helping out (Aniplex did NOT help out with AGE though), but I don't know if Aniplex has any real ownership over the SEEDs or 00 like they do with GL.

Gurren Lagann would be perfect for Toonami. There were rumors that it would show up in edited form on Toonami back in 07/08, but obviously they never panned out.

I'm all for Gurren Lagann on Toonami. Adult Swim should have aired it back in 2008, but they passed it up for Code Geass.

Really? Never knew that. Hell, I never even knew it was considered. I love Code Geass (2nd favorite), but if I had the choice of airing that or Gurren Lagann, it's Gurren Lagann hands down.

Anyway, I voted for Gurren Lagann. Ever since I watched it on Sci-Fi I always though it'd be a good fit for either Toonami or [as].

I only saw a few episodes of Gurren Lagann when it was airing on the Sci-Fi channel. It was mostly the last few episodes, so it didn't quite click with me because of that. I wouldn't mind seeing it come to Toonami. From what I've seen and heard about it, it would fit on the block and I could check it out to see it works better for me with seeing the whole series. I'd prefer to see Madoka on the block, but I don't have Facebook, so I can't vote in that poll, or see what is listed, anyway.
