"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I think the issue with Zatch Bell is mainly that even if it were up for grabs only the edited version of the dub exists as far as anyone knows and I doubt anyone would be happy seeing that version on late night Toonami nor do I think Viz would have any interest in re-dubbing the show.

I would assume VIZ no longer has the license to Zatch Bell, so I doubt it is airing again. I agree that it feels a bit too kiddy for Toonami's current form, too.

Again, that's why I think it would be perfect for Vortexx. It's already edited and they won't have to redub anything.

I remember enjoying what I saw of Zatch Bell, but it's definitely more Vortexx material than something for Toonami to air. I'm not sure if Viz still has the license and even if they do, they wouldn't want to redub it for Toonami.

Zatch Bell has also been nowhere on Neon Alley. Another indication that VIZ may no longer have it.

Something new for the next 2 weekends on the block.

What’s our new piece this week, you ask? Well… it’s a secret! The next two weeks, we’ve got a fun little thing happening we hope you’ll enjoy. All we can say is… tune in and find out! And yes… NO HINTS. :)

That use of "piece" makes you go hmmmm.

nah they always use piece or spot - to represent there promos, plus i dont see what they can do with one piece for a two week thingy you know

we never said they did , they just dont put promos up out of no where though. Just calm down

I guess they got a pile of questions about it, cause they went and answered it as such.

It’s a short “piece” of creative that is in no way related to the show, “One Piece.” Hopefully that’s definitive enough for some folks!

Getting the vibe it has to do with the transition of going from Tom 3.5 to Tom 5.

Maybe in preperation for IGPX, they're gonna air the original OVA...

I really had to laugh at the ridiculous speculation going on, especially when ever they reblog or post something related to a past show. Like Zatch coming back? Even if it was available, NO. please no. It just in my opinion wouldn't fit, even uncut.

Otherwise, the new thing? It might just be a TOM 5 teaser, but I guess we'll see...

My only question is whether or not Viz Media may have the rights or they have reverted back. I noticed on the copyright page (which does get updated) apparently does list Zatch Bell, but not the manga. Given it appears (though I'm not 100% certain) that Toei Animation may still have the rights to distribute the anime, while the manga is in limbo currently, this might be possible.

Now, let's assume that Viz does have it for a moment. One thing that is curious whether or not Viz Media would go out of their way to remix Zatch Bell to be uncut. While it wouldn't be that costly to do instead of doing a fresh dub, the dub would need to have some rerecorded dialogue here or there, but could mostly be used as a basis. The other problem that comes here is whether or not Studiopolis still has the original voice files stored still. If they don't, they'd have to rerecord the thing from scratch, which might be too costly to warrant. However, Toonami/Adult Swim might still be willing to air the edited dub, but I'm not entirely sure how the response there would be.

So, there's problems here.

Isn't the dub of Zatch Bell still incomplete?

Correct. Viz never dubbed the last 46 episodes.

I don't know why anyone would want Zatch Bell back. The anime was fairly lame and poorly animated, and the heavy censoring doesn't help. If they had to air an obscure Viz anime, I'd go with Blue Dragon. At least that show has an uncut dub, as does it's sequel show.

Blue Dragon never really appealed to me, but I only saw a few episodes of the edited dub anyway. I didn't know that it had an uncut dub, but I don't think that either show are Toonami material. Both of them would fit better on something like the Vortexx.
