"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

So.... Looks like we got ourselves a second season for Sword Art Online.

Guess that means we'll probably have more of the show you guys just love on Toonami in the future.

I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised given the series' popularity and it does pretty well ratings wise for the block too. I'd much rather prefer them to use their budget to get better shows.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, a minute!
It sounds like a simple, random question that could apply for any show that features "cute girls", but now I'm wondering if that also could be referring to that Soul Eater Not Spinoff anime being announced recently since Toonami is currently airing Soul Eater?

I asked that question, but it had nothing to do with Soul Eater Not. It was mainly because of Girls und Panzer, which many on ANN were worried wouldn't cut it because of 99% of its cast being high school girls, as well as occasional dips into "cute girls doing cute things" territory, especially early on. But it's definitely filled with heavy tank action, and it would probably fit the "action" theme better than Casshern Sins (which apparently didn't have too much action). As for SEN, it looks to be entirely in the "cute girls doing cute things" genre, so I seriously doubt it'll even be considered, even if it's based off one of the block's biggest hits. GuP could work. SEN clearly won't.

I get the feeling I should've expected a "yes" on that question, since they aired both Sailor Moon and The Powerpuff Girls back in the day, and both easily qualify as action.

I didn't expect it to be work. I just simply wondered whether or not that was the line of reasoning behind that question, since you happen to ask that question right after the Soul Eater Not promotional video came out.

Here's the talkback image for Space Dandy:

On Friday I saw quite a few twitter remarks that Space Dandy commercials have been running on ESPN at a minimum, including during the Orange Bowl at least once. Sounds like they're taking promotion for this thing pretty seriously.

I can make it, if you're cool with that!

All right, go ahead!

I didn't want to take on Space Dandy because I may have to do original Naruto again eventually and that'll be two threads for me to make already. Doing a third is just too much, lol.

Well since they have all of the popular shonnen shows, and all of them long running, I am predicating when Soul Eater ends, Fairy Taill will take its place. I am going out on a limb and am predicting that.

I know there's people who'd like to see Fairy Tail, but even with Bleach a little over a year from finishing, do we want four in a row? Especially three that would be on a long time. We don't know if we'll still have 11:30 when Space Dandy ends, so it could start at 1:30 then move to 11:30. Whatever the case, I want to see newer and shorter premiers within the first couple hours of the block. Something short and sweet that can be replaced upon finishing so there's some variety. Who knows they'll do when Bleach ends.

We know guaranteed there's at least '1' big announcement, but we don't even know how deep in 2014 that announcement comes to light. If it's Fairy Tail, that's fine, but again, hope to see some more 26ish episode series when Space Dandy ends, and as early as possible.

Actually, Bleach will be ending this year. Assuming no breaks are taken for the next 40 weeks, the series should end on October 11 at the earliest.

Gotcha. I'd imagine maybe 1 or 2 more Saturdays off if they do some special [movie] events.

As much as I like Fairy Tail and seeing it on Toonami would be pretty cool, I'm not really into the idea of another long running show on the block. Bleach won't end until October at best, Shippuden has over three hundred episodes at this point and One Piece has an even larger amount of episodes under its belt with absolute no end in sight. Fairy Tail is a pretty fun show, although it took the first couple of arcs for it to really get going for me, but I don't know if a fourth long running series would be good, especially when there's not guarantee that they'll keep the 11:30PM slot after Space Dandy finishes their run.

Having a few shorter series join the lineup would probably be better for them in the long run since it won't result in more slots being locked up for years. I wouldn't be too surprised if one of their big announcements was Attack on Titan. I think it's still their most requested show at the moment, it's pretty popular and more recent, so that could make them want to air it more. I remember that there was that issue with having the series out on DVD first before getting a TV airing, although I'm not sure if that was confirmed, but I could see them trying to get it on the lineup sometime later this year.

Well personally I think as animes Fairy Tail is way better than Shippuden, but that is just my opinion. Actully people agree that the Fairy Tail anime is better than the manga, the story is just presented better in the anime than the manga in the opinions of many.

Being better than Shippuden ain't much of an accomplishment. Regardless, FT is way to tame for Toonami.

Speaking of videogames, what about Sengoku Basara for this block?

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
