"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Well I said this before.Demarco could make a Patreon page so fans could donate to them.Maybe that could help them with their small budget. This is Patreon if you guys don't know what it is.https://www.patreon.com

Pretty sure they've said in the past that they aren't even sure if it's legal/allowed for them, as a network, to take donations from random people.

I really doubt that they would get enough money from fan donations to significantly improve their budget anyway.

Bleach reruns would replace SWCW! Since SWCW is going to disney I believe...

Likely not going to happen - they already began Big O season 2 and GITS2ndGIG - and it doesn't feel too necessary to replay it. (at least not at this time)

If they chose to, they could double-up and save the trouble of recycling the same shows numerous times.

Well there goes my hopes for reruns of Bleach.I think Bleach was one of Adult Swim's longest running programs.

Yeah Bleach has been on for a minute. I only started watching back in 2007'

Actually even if they tripled up and showed three episodes a week, it'd still take over... two years to show Bleach as it's in total 366 episodes long. Honestly that's what they probably should do as I assume they'd have the rights to the series for at least a few years after the fact (the reason Inuyasha aired for 10 years was because it had so many episodes it staggered the schedule thus they didn't have to renew it nearly as often. I assume Bleach would be the same) and if they don't have as many slots because of losing the rights to other shows, why not go with something they already have? Especially if they do it like say at 4:30-6:00AM since only true dedicated folks watch that late anyway and it's all repeats most of the time regardless. At least until... even 2017 they wouldn't have to bother scheduling anything else at those times so that's something.

I'm still surprised that they aren't going for Bleach reruns. I expected that they'd at least be able to air the first fifty-two episodes like they did with Naruto, but I'm perfectly fine with it leaving the lineup too since I've never cared for Bleach and it would take a ridiculously long time for them to cover the whole series again anyway.

Long time yes, but while 2 feels legit, 3 to me sounds a little desperate like they really don't have anything else. If it helped the back-end of the block though, despite other series would lead it in, then I wouldn't care if they tripled it. I'd be one of those not watching it, but if it'd help Toonami, then I'm for it, but I don't see it happening.

Chums,

i'm still pissed bleach is leaving. bebop, big o, fmab and gits have had one too many reruns. they've had their time now let some other series take over the graveyard shift.

Yeah, but it's a bigger series and they probably can't afford it, especially with Viz's prices. They own Big O and GitS eternally, and can renew Bebop and FMAB until the cows come home due to FUNimation's low prices.

Chum,

i'm leery of the toonami crews claims of certain shows being too expensive for them to air. with the increase in piracy and the reduction of titles being carried at brick and mortar stores one would think companies would be more willing than ever to negotiate price in order gain more exposure in the hopes that a show sells better. there's also the fact that adultswim is the only well known block even interested in airing non toyetic anime so its not like there's any competition to decide who gets broadcasting rights. and anime isn't as popular or profitable as it was a decade or so ago so making a show too expensive to even air is extremely counterproductive. viz, aniplex, etc have nothing to gain by playing hardball.

it sounds silly to lie about something as simple as funds but remember they aren't being paid. they have nothing to truly lose from their actions so they might as well be picky about their anime selections and put in as little work as possibly.

Amigo,

I think you should relax and not make groundless assumptions that counter things the Toonami team has shared with us.

Chum,

i see where your coming from but i'm not trying to slander their character. i believe most of what they tell their fans is true but i choose to take some of their claims with a grain of salt. its not like i'm saying they committed a crime or did something unethical. there's no harm in a little speculation about their decision-making.

There's a difference between speculating their decision making and making baseless assumptions. You're claiming that they're lying about the prices of these shows because they're being picky about what goes on the block, or at least I believe that's what you're saying here. There's really no reason to doubt what the Toonami crew has told fans about how they pick shows. While it's true that they aren't being paid, I don't think that necessarily means that they have nothing to loose. If they're caught lying, that could upset their fanbase and could potentially hurt the block. I don't really see why they would lie in the first place. They've been pretty straightforward with fans from the start of the revival and funds have always been tight for the block as well.

Since none of us here are in TV business or deals with Viz Media/Aniplex, I don't see any reason to doubt the people who actually are involved with dealing with those companies. If someone involved with either company claimed otherwise, then that would be a different story, but baseless assumptions and accusations aren't enough to make the whole doubting their claims about show prices and their funds make sense. Considering how ridiculously expensive Aniplex's DVD prices are, I also have no trouble believing that they would charge a lot for TV rights.

Chum,

that's the thing though. no one here can prove that they've been straightforward from the start. just because someone claims they are telling the the truth that doesn't make it so. people make stuff up all the time, even about things that are largely insignificant. and being caught hasn't stopped people from lying before. and how or why exactly would they be caught? its not a exactly a crime to be selective about which shows are broadcasted on a block. and lets say they do get caught, whats the worst that can happen? a couple fans post online about how angry they are and they get fired from a job that's done on a volunteer basis? not exactly something to lose sleep over.

the only thing we have to go on is their word alone. that might be enough for you but not for me. either way you look at it everyone is making baseless assumptions.

The way I look at it is companies will say things to save face but business is complicated. Nobody wants to be known that party that kept a potentially lucrative deal from happening. It doesn't look good, that's for sure. However, if two companies cannot come to a mutually beneficial agreement then there's no reason that either should have to be charitable if they don't consider it in their best interest. It's best not to assume one way or another because we'll never known and ultimately it's not productive conversation when we don't have the facts. All we can do is accept the reality that things don't always work out like we think they should and in many cases that's no one's fault in particular.

Nothing that they've said has been contradicted later on or been proven as lies, which is why I say that they have been straightforward with us from the start. I also still honestly don't see why they would lie in the first place. It doesn't seem like it would be worth lying about and I don't think that they would get anything out of it by lying to fans over something like the prices of their shows. Being fired a job would be something to lose sleep over. They don't earn money from working on Toonami, but if they lose people, that could make it more difficult to keep it going with fewer people or they might not be able to get more people to work with no pay. Besides that, it's generally good PR to not lie to the masses in general, especially when something like Toonami does run on fan support.

I still don't see why their word alone isn't enough, especially when there's no evidence to actually back up your doubts and there's no reason to have doubts about their word in the first place. In regards to their prices, taking them for their word isn't a baseless assumption.

Chum,

agreed 100%, especially the bold. people tend to assume too much about others despite not being privy to all the facts. its almost impossible to know how something went down or what was the motivation behind a persons/groups decision.

but
, the line of thought behind how someone decides animation programming is such a trivial mater so there's no real harm in playing devils advocate. hehe

I wish Imgur wasn't allowed on this forum until the time is right for a return since it's been unavailable in the UK since last September, so I don't see why people use links from the site for here when it's no longer available in the UK and I'm really angry that their parent company made this stupid decision.

MeTV Toons is a great channel when it comes to classic cartoons, but we know it can be way better. The Duck4Real (me!) elaborates on this in his latest YouTube vlog. Watch it!
