Toonami Ratings

Darn, no repeat on the three million-viewer shows. Eh, two still ain't bad.
But that weird drop in Samurai 7's ratings from last week's got me a bit worried...okay not worried, but it's a little off-putting, to me, at least.
But, from Eureka Seven onwards has gone up since last week, so there's that.

I guess these are pretty decent ratings overall.

I think that those are pretty good ratings. Bleach and Naruto are still getting to the one million mark. I'm still curious how that will work once new episodes for Bleach start airing. Thundercats was fairly close to that mark, but it is still pulling in some nice result. The drop from Thundercats to Samurai 7 is larger than it was last week and Samurai 7 didn't do as well as it did last week either, but I don't think it's bad enough for them to consider moving it around the block again. Sym-Bionic Titan and Eureka Seven did relatively well for their timeslots too. It does look like a relatively decent turnout for the block.

I guess Thundercats and Symbionic Titan just needed the right demographics.

Ratings are in:

12:00 AM - Bleach - 1,099,000 viewers
12:30 AM - Naruto - 1,124,000 viewers
1:00 AM - Thundercats - 993,000 viewers
1:30 AM - Samurai 7 - 769,000 viewers
2:00 AM - Sym-Bionic Titan - 751,000 viewers
2:30 AM - Eureka Seven - 703,000 viewers
3:00 AM - Tenchi Muyo! GXP - 735,000 viewers
3:30 AM - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - 667,000 viewers
4:00 AM - Cowboy Bebop - 702,000 viewers
4:30 AM - Cowboy Bebop - 667,000 viewers
5:00 AM - InuYasha - 608,000 viewers
5:30 AM - InuYasha - 567,000 viewers

Although Thundercats didn't get a million this week, and the ratings for Samurai 7 and Sym-Bionic Titan are down, the block as a whole performed very well. What is especially suprising is that all the shows from 2:30-5:30 managed over 600,000, with the 4:00am Cowboy Bebop managing 700,000, which seems really good for the timeslot. Tenchi is especially doing nicely in it's timeslot, consistently outperforming Eureka 7, and I think that it's placement at 3 am helps the shows later in the night perform higher as well. In any case, the strong performance in the block's second half, coupled with continued million viewer ratings for Naruto and Bleach, and Thundercats' strong ratings, definiately serves as a good sign for the block's performance in the future, especially when Bleach resumes new episodes. I just hope that the show/s that replace Samurai 7 and Sym-Bionic Titan in February are good choices that can keep the ratings momentum of the block consistently strong throughout the night.

I doubt Titan will be replaced, seeing as they own it.

Yeah, I can easily see them keeping both Sym-Bionic Titan and Thundercats on the block for a long time since they own them and they most likely don't have to pay to air them like with their anime titles.

No please, no more shuffling! There's only 6 more episodes of Samurai 7, if they need to do anymore shuffling they should wait until it's over in Feb. If they move any of the shows again between now and Feb, people are only going to get more confused, which is not good for ratings.

And people, you really shouldn't be worried by drops from week to week. As we all know, Saturdays have fluctuated for years so that isn't something new. Furthermore, these are TOTAL numbers, not 18-34 numbers, which are the only ratings that matter for the most part. So for all we know the 18-34 numbers may be a lot more consistent week to week than the total numbers are showing us.

Cool to see Naruto win again, and solid #s, I'd been thinking that with the whole Holiday season, not as much TV in general would be watched

Someone want to fill me in though please? When I think of 'ratings' I think something like 0.4/1 and 1,099,000 as the P2+ for who watched

I'm not very sure that the Toonami crew will simply leave Sym Bionic Titan and the Thundercats on the block after their episodes are finished. One note that caught my attention is how they constantly state on Tumblr about Big O and FLCL eventually finding their way to the block.

At the very least, Titan might end up taking a decent break(so its refreshing when it airs again) for Big O.

With Thundercats starting to get around a million viewers recently, I could see it staying for at least another run. I mean if it does well, why remove it for a show that will likely not do as well?

I hope they air Big O. I would watch it (well, if they air season 1).

I was saying that the ratings aren't low enough for them to consider changing their schedule again. I still think that one of the reasons they moved GXP so soon was because they had such high hopes for a Tenchi series to bring in ratings, despite how GXP is pretty much a Tenchi series in name only and doesn't involve characters that fans of the original block might want to see. The ratings do fluctuate, but they're still pretty stable and decent all things considered.

It has been able to break through the one million mark, so I can see them keeping it around for another run in the hopes that it keeps bringing in ratings like that again. Sym-Bionic Titan might stick around too if they like having two action cartoons on the block for a bit of diversity and if it saves them a bit of money that they can use to get some more recent shows.

Well, I EXPECT that they will rerun Sym-Bionic Titan. I don't think that it should keep it's 2am time slot when it does though. Both Samurai 7 and Sym-Bionic Titan end their runs around the same time next month. I'm expecting that both are replaced with different shows in the 1:30 and 2:00am time slots when that happens. Sym-Bionic Titan can just replace one of the Cowboy Bebop episodes for it's second run.

I don't expect 2AM premieres to be a regular thing. We only have premieres until 3:30AM right now because of Sym-Bionic Titan and ThunderCats which aren't likely to leave in just one run and cost them no additional fees to play. They're also technically reruns for the channel. So unless they brought in another CN show we probably wont get 2AM premieres and honestly that's ideal even if it means we'll only be able to get 1 or 2 new shows at a time on top of Bleach and Uncut Naruto, if you count it. That keeps them all before 2AM unless they get 2 new shows before ThunderCats ends its' first run. Then whether a show gets 2AM premieres likely depends on how much they paid for it.

Idealy, ThunderCats moves to 2AM so two fresh shows can join back to back but then again putting ThunderCats between premieres has helped the surrounding shows so that's something they may also consider when 2AM frees up.

Or maybe I'm setting my expectations lower than necessary and despite it seeming like a bit of a waste of money to run 2AM premieres, they'll keep premieres going into the 2AM hour for a while yet. We shall see.

Ratings are in: Bleach 1099, Naruto 1124, TCats 993, S7 769, S-BT 751, E7 703, GXP 735, FA:B 667, CB*2 685, IY*2 586

When TCats, S7, & S-BT end they will be replaced. DeMarco's not likely to give them a 2nd consecutive run. More shows are on the way then & it's up to the viewer to decide if they are new. I don't think DeMarco draws a distinction between new & old & premiere vs re-run. He's picking shows he likes within the limits of what each hr needs to avg to be considered a success With his selection of the 2003 GXP the skies the limit on what might appear. That's part of what makes TOONAMI cooler right now. As to where they appear after the lead hr, that depends mostly on DeMarco's expectations. Assuming he likes these shows the order will be PS&G, Tiger & Bunny, Megas XLR, E7, GXP, etc. That sets up IY:FA to take over when the short series PS&G ends. Megas XLR has a cult following from it's CN network days & like S-BT had above avg adult #'s for CN. Some even say it had an influence on S-BT.

Ep 148 of IY is a recap ep of the story from it's inception. It's the ideal place to start a new IY run that includes the Final Act. I'm hoping that's the way DeMarco goes. IY book ends could lift all that's in between then.

Uhm....it's been confirmed several times that the rights to MegasXLR were written off and CN nor AS can ever air it again...

What you say not only doesn't make sense ( CN studios produced the 2 seasons) but there's also no mention of it in the wiki. The more recent update involves the possibility of a video game which CN studios would likely be involved in. I suggest you use greater discretion in what sources you choose to trust in. Likewise, it still appears in the CN iTunes section. As for [as] the guys who formed Titmouse where involved with Megas XLR. That name should be well known amongst [as] fans by now. It's just further reason to doubt what you're claiming.

Uh...

Anonymous Asked: I'm sure I saw you guys answer this before but I can't find it because you guys are awesome and respond to a lot of questions, anyways I was trying to help someone understand this but I figured your answer would be better.. CN wrote off megas XLR and even though AS is technically another network neither can air Megas anymore correct? Thanks for the time Toonami team :)

CN/AS can not air Megas XLR, ever again. Hope that answers your question.

...and...

Anonymous Asked: I know you can't show Megas XLR or IGPX again, but exactly why can't you show either one?

We’ve explained this multiple times, both shows were “written off.” You can find more info about this from Toonami fan sites, animation sites, or Google. Thanks!

You were saying? ;)

...and...You were saying? ;)
One of these days you will wake up & realize that twitter & tumblr are primarily entertainment venues and you should not treat what is said there as gospel truth. I would think the phrase "can never air the shows again!" is a clear give away for exageration especially when your tumblr evidence lacks any reason as to why. They avoided that completely by referring to google. Let me know what that turns up for you.

If you had simply done a search on the topic here, you would have found a thread that confirms what the wiki says: CN studios produced the show, CN retains the digital rights (iTunes), CN retains tv licenses in some nations of the world, & any future deal for tv rights would require CN studios consent.

When trying to apply a reason to what was said on tumblr this is what makes the most sense. The subject has been discussed between the producers (Titmouse) and CN studios & CN studios said no. They are clearly happy with the digital rights revenue and having no further interest in exploring other rights or distribution channels (home video). Can the recent news involving a video game release change that? Definitely. If Warner was to commit to that production then TOONAMI exposure is a form of marketing & it makes sense to commit to retaining the license. Still Warner, prefers outside licenses to inside ones, so if a tv network (say DXD to pair XLR with Motorcity) where interested they would like sell it to them for the exposure instead. But any effort to get XLR back on tv any where would undoubtedly require a commitment to produce the video game.
