Why the hate for Disney's Doug is stupid.

So, I watching some episodes of Disney's One Saturday Morning version the other night...and I got to say...I'll still don't get the hate for Disney's Doug and I still don't get why it considered massively inferior to Nickelodeon's Doug.

Yeah, some of the changes on the show were stupid such as not bringing back Billy West to voice Doug and Roger, or changing Pattie's haircut and making short, or breaking up the Beets...and yes the show is a little bland...but so was the original show and it's not like the Nick version was some flawless masterpiece...because it certainly wasn't and it doesn't really hold up well at all.

Is it Disney's Doug perfect and my favorite cartoon ever....no, most DEFINITELY not...but I still thought it was a decent continuation of the original Nicktoon and what is DEFINITELY not one of my favorite "classic" Nicktoons and if it aired in reruns on one of Disney's channels, I'd watch it if nothing else is on. Plus, the show aired well over 20 years ago...so if your still holding a personal grudge over what Disney did to Doug, I think it's really time to move on my friend.

I know I’m in the minority, but I actually prefer the Disney version. I’m not a really big Doug fan to begin with, but we had reruns on Toon Disney on as background noise when we first got the channel. Actually the strange thing is, if somebody were to ask me to describe the show I would describe something that is a mix between the two. I mostly imagine the characters to look like the Disney version, but have the relationships and dynamics they have in the Nick version.

Neither Doug was my favorite show but Brand Spanking New Doug (or as I called it back then Sand Spanking Nude Doug... because my 10 year old self thought that was the most hilarious thing ever) isn't really like a terrible continuation. I mean at least a fair amount of points in what it changed was trying to make the point that change happens and things are going to be different and not to freak about that which is a way of having a decent lesson while adjusting people to the new dynamic of your series. Were all the changes great? No but I didn't see a huge problem with most of them. Plus there are some things I appreciate this show doing over the original. I like the focus on giving other characters more time in the spotlight away from Doug either in subplots or even stories more about them so things weren't just centered around the one character and honestly I like Roger a lot more in Disney Doug. Where yeah he's still a bully and a jerk but having him rich gives him new dynamics to have with different characters like Bebe and do things other then just harass Doug so I was fine with that. And let's face it; this is a much better example of Nicktoon leaving Nick to have a continuation not featuring Billy West then Ren And Stimpy's Adult Party Cartoon. Granted some of the scenarios were more stock then the original series but it's still fine... for Goug which you know is a solid show. Not great but honestly Doug's one of those that gets a lot of flak for being standard not realizing how much of a breath of fresh air that was for cartoons at the time and yeah done better now but how this wasn't a lousy first attempt at that sort of kids show.

Look on the brightside Disneys Doug is much better than that nightmare "Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon" from Spike TV.

Disneys Doug still felt like Doug and still had its charm, Ren and Stimpy lost its charm when it got revived in 2003.

Disney’s Doug is fine overall, I watched through the whole series on Disney+ and I enjoyed it. But they cut way back on Doug’s anxiety imagination sequences compared to the Nick version, and those were the best part. Plus there’s at least a couple of episodes that are purely Quailman stories without any normal-Doug frame story, and that’s just odd.

It's honestly been at least a decade since I've heard anyone complain about Disney's Doug. Maybe it comes up more often than I expect, especially since I didn't realize it was available on Disney+, but I really haven't heard anyone hate on Disney's Doug for ages. I didn't really have much of a problem with it. I wasn't a huge fan of Nickelodeon's Doug either, but it had some charm to it.

I never hated Disney's Brand Spanking New Doug. In fact, I find it as entertaining and as great as (some days better than) Nickelodeon Doug. When I first watched it on Toon Disney when I was younger, I was surprised to see more than one version of the same show; but I still loved the Nick version already and immediately loved the Disney version as well to pay it no mind. I didn't mind the changes then and now (I honestly found them minimal to the whole production) and found most endearing. I found the hatred over-the-top and overblown (everyone has their opinions and that's cool) to the point that they watched it only once and made their minds halfway through the first episode. I'm glad to see other members like it too, and I feel it's a big sigh of relief. Time to give it a major rewatch.

I'm pretty sure I remember watching Disney's Doug on Disney's One Saturday Morning or Disney's One Too back in 2001. I didn't know about the Nickelodeon version until a few years later. The Disney version focused on the other characters and not just Doug; the stories were very interesting when they involved Quailman. I would consider these improvements over the Nick version. I will never forget the time when one Disney episode actually attacked eating disorders, something that never happened in the Nick version.

I didn't think Disney's Doug was horrible at all; however, it would be tied with the Nickelodeon version in quality.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
