Bandai is still making some moves television wise. They just added K-On to MNET where they previously aired Outlaw Star, Mai-Hime and supposedly Eureka 7.

It turns out AS still has InuYasha. DeMarco tweeted that the additional hour for DST will be the first two episodes of InuYasha and a special easter egg for long time Toonami fans.

I expect to be surprised by whatever shows up when Casshern ends. With the way they've been playing their cards so far it will be equally surprising for them to get something out of left field as it would be for them to get something highly requested like Final Act. But if they want to keep people tuned in it would likely be in their best interest to air a show that isn't on DVD yet.

AS may not have the full rights to Inuyasha still, but could have easily made a deal with VIZ to air the first 2 episodes again for just the one night similar to how AS aired certain shows just for April Fools Day. If AS still had the rights, I think VIZ wouldn't be able to air it on Neon Alley as they are now. Bleach the series not airing on Neon Alley seems to be an indicator that VIZ can't air anything that AS still has the airing rights to. I'm sure The Final Act and any other future potential VIZ show would be sold to AS in a way that doesn't impact Neon Alley. Though, who really knows, and sadly DeMarco is no longer able to comment on these type of things.

The Bandai shows currently airing are up for sale & while FUNIMATION is the front runner to land them, I think Warner could be a dark horse. VIZ has partnered with Warner Home Entertainment for the IY:Final Act release in Nov & Warner has an active interest in Gintama as well. In general then I think Warner is increasing it's interest in Japanese animation.

Um, what? Am I missing something here?

It is my understanding that Neon Alley is considered streaming rights rather than broadcast rights. Adult Swim has the streaming rights to dubbed Bleach episodes as well but does not have the streaming rights to InuYasha's dub.

Sure it could be the case that WS is borrowing InuYasha's broadcast rights for one night but I think they've just always had it and chose not to air it on Toonami initially because they'd rather air other shows in those 3 hours they had to work with. Now that they have 6 hours it's a good time to bring back InuYasha. And they may just be waiting until they run through one of the shows in the 3AM-6AM time frame.

Warner Bros. Japan was the studio that released the Gintama Movie in Japan. I'm not sure what that has to do with Toonami in the US though, as Warner Brothers JP worked on things like the Death Note movies, and Supernatural: The Animation.

ok so Jason Demarco said this on twitter "Honestly wish we could NOT release ratings. Ppl obsess over them like Box Office #s and they aren't whole story."

I've always looked at ratings this way. While it's nice to see a show I like do well in numbers there is also other things that attribute to a shows on-air success, especially when it comes to advertisers and how much they're paying the network to air their show during certain programming.

Case in point: Show "A" does 2.2 in the ratings but appeals to young girls than a company promoting a game called "Head Splitters 5" probably wouldn't want to pay the network to air their ad, but if a show was doing a 1.7 and was dedicated towards boys than that game company would probably pay a decent amount to air their ad knowing it appeals to the boys more even though the show is doing lower ratings. There are other instances and situations too, but I've never been a ratings monger like some others have been because I understand that there is more going on behind the door than a bunch of suits sweating over the ratings.

While that's true in general, Sat is different. It's such a challenging night to draw adults of any age or sex, that all adult viewers are welcome & if you look at the sponsors for TOONAMI the past 2 qtrs, it's clear that 12-24 are welcome as well.

This past Sat the competition was mixed. Sports combined for about 18m viewers on ABC & FOX & I'm guessing another 10m overall on cable. SNL scored a 4.1 in 18-49 & a 10 overall. Best encore ratings in a while. That figures to damage [as] plenty but then there's the BO. It crumbled with failed openings. Argo led with just over $5m, & Translyvania was 2nd with just over $4m. Warner spent over $100m for Cloud Atlas & came away with less than $10m on opening weekend. Sat in particular did $3.7m which actually beat Fri. It's C+ at Cinemascore does not bode well for it's run. Open Road spent $20m on Silent Hill 3D & came away with over $8m. It trailed Atlas by $1m on Sat. Sun's ratings will be interesting as well with the Giants sweeping Det in 10 innings. That drew over 16m & likely will see 18m for L+SD.

I was referring more to this: Dec 17, 2008: Viz Media announced that on Apr, 2009 Warner will handle the distribution of both it's new & existing catalog releases. http://www.wbshop.com/search.do?query=anime&genres=Anime&sortby=bestMatchesDescend&pp=192 The Tiger & Bunny rel date is set for 2nd wk of Feb, 2013.

I'm not expecting much out of the Venture Bros Halloween special ratings wise as I felt it was lame up until the Hellraiser scene then it sort of finished stronger. It's a reminder they just ran out of ideas for that show but it's still nice to see some holiday specials.

With Saturday Night just being a sucky night for television in general, I really have to wonder how much better Toonami would do on a weeknight slot. It would unfortunately never happen just because comedy always performs better (especially the FOX reruns), but it is worth thinking about. Even the comedies on Sundays fall short ratings wise compared to the comedies on weeknights.

Fox comedies, yeah but doesn't Toonami on some occasions perform better than [as]'s live-action comedies?

In slots where FG is the lead, then no. In slots where FG is absent, then yes. Because comedy has changed Fri into a ratings winning night, TOONAMI on a weekday is not happening. Exceptions might include special event nights though. Warner has some interesting film & anime tie-ins that could probably work mid-week. While Sun has picked itself up some it still lags behind M-F now, so they might be more inclined to host special events then. They aired the Black Dynamite film so if they have the desire they could air the Dir Cut of Watchmen followed by the Black Freigher & make it a Watchmen night. Similarly they have Terminator Salvation & the Machinima Series, Dark Knight & Gotham Knight, & of course Matrix Reloaded & the Animatrix. Following the blockbuster film with animation is something fans would only find on [as]. TNT & TBS will never do it. I wouldn't rule out a special SW TOONAMI mid-week if Lucasfilm ever produces a new SW film.

But all of that is wishful thinking. I think we first have to see FG lead into TOONAMI before they consider even special events outside of Sat.

It still doesn't make sense to me for TOONAMI to favor FUNIMATION over VIZ given that Warner is VIZ's distributor now. In typical direct to video deals like this Warner puts up some of the $ for production costs in exchange for a much higher % of rev from sales. This gives Warner greater say in the prioritization of production work. There shouldn't be any doubt then that Warner benefits considerably from airing VIZ titles on [as]. Along those lines: 11/20/12 Inuyasha:Final Act Set1, 01/29/13 Naruto Ship uncut 13 up to ep 166, 02/13/13 Inuyasha:Final Act Set2, 02/19/13 Tiger&Bunny Set1.

If failed CN shows Symbiotic Titan & Thundercats are good enough for TOONAMI then why not Blue Dragon?

It's not that Toonami favors Funimation over Viz, it's that Viz is charging too much for them to acquire it's shows. They just dont have the money for them, that's the only reason. Jason DeMarco even said on Twitter he would like to put Naruto Shippuden on Toonami if he could, so it's not like they are adamantly against airing Viz shows.

And Toonami is airing Symbionic Titan and Thundercats because it doesn't cost them a dime to air and because the shows have a substantial adult following. Blue Dragon does not have such an adult fanbase nor would it cost nothing for them to air. Big differences.

the ratings this week are going to be complete trash with sandy and all a lot of pplw are out of power including me

Blue Dragon? No thanks. If they're going to play kids' shows they gotta be incredible.

Warner has been distributing for Viz for many years now and that seemingly has not meant anything to Adult Swim's anime selections unless it was the reason they got Kekkaishi and maybe it was but it didn't secure them first dibs on anything from Viz since then and Warner didn't strong arm Turner into getting Naruto Shippuden. The reason I suspect is Viz wants a lot of money for those shows and the Warner deal doesn't change that. Warner doesn't really mind because some of those shows are going to sell regardless if they air on TV so they're still getting paid but Warner could make so much more money on a show like Tiger & Bunny if they got Turner to pick it up for Toonami and gave it top billing.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/30/disney-buys-lucasfilm-star-wars-7_n_2045632.html This could be a game changer for Warner. Disney buying Lucasfilm for $4B (about what they paid for Marvel). SW Ep 7 film expected in 2015 which is about a yr after the Spike exclusive cable license expires. Disney now has the two top selling toy franchises in Star Wars & Spider-Man & nothing comes close. That could be a contention with the Dept of Justice.

I was kidding about Blue Dragon. I don't even think VIZ has the license for the first vol & the price for vol's 2 & 3 demonstrate it's utter failure.

I prefer a far edgier TOONAMI than what's currently airing.

Cool, but this doesn't really have anything to do with Toonami, or its ratings.

Apparently you have forgotten that SW event night pre-empted ACTN last winter. Anything Star Wars is definitely relevant to [as] which includes TOONAMI. Disney buying Star Wars probably will make it tougher on Turner to get Star Wars Detours now & retain Clone Wars. As we saw with Marvel, Disney is not reluctant to buy out contracts to bring home these properties.

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...g-island-medium-boardwalk-empire-more/155249/ The Venture Bros Halloween special was lame ratings wise. It lost 0.3 18-49 from FG & over 1m total viewers. It lost to the Talking Dead by a wide margin. FG lost to the Walking Dead encore by a similar margin. RC lost another 0.1 18-49 & about 300k viewers after VBros. It looks to have beaten the 2nd Walking Dead encore.

RC fans are weird. Nearly 2m of them tune in after FG on Mon night, but a Sun premiere doesn't reach 1.2m.

Good job Bleach and Samurai 7 and a 700,000 for Casshern isn't too bad either. SBT finally beat ThunderCats and by a decent amount. Too bad everything post 1:30 did worse than they have been lately.

Geez, what happened to everything after Symbionic Titan? Just last week they were getting nratings over 500,000 but they've dropped a good 150,000 this week. Hope this doesn't become a trend.

And Bleach and Samurai 7 continue to get their acts togehter. About time.
