IGPX: "The End...and the Beginning" Talkback (Spoilers)

Wowza...

To start, the race was very good, as expected. Satomi pulled together quite well, and surpassed the Snowman. But man, that was one of the crazier spiritual battles we've seen. The imagery was very much like something out of GitS..I wonder why. ;)

Some low points, however. White Snow could have been played a bit better. Zanak and Judy as simply pawns with Max as the true leader doesn't really agree with scenes we saw earlier in the series (Zanak giving orders to the other two). And yeah...the whole "tear and make sudden change for the better" thing was a bit too farfetched considering this girl has been a master hacker for some time.

The whole Takeshi and Liz thing...oh boy. I was hiding my head on that one. It would've been better if Takeshi wouldn't have said that one line..the "never letting you go" line. Too corny for me....

On that note, I have to give this series a big plus for one thing: they actually got together. What I mean is, they didn't just leave it at "They obviously like each other but don't want to admit it". At least they put some closure to it. It would have been incredibly lame if they had decided to leave it where it stood because they've been building up on this since season one. So yeah...big plus.

I like the fact that Johnny is on Team Satomi now. That was a good detail.

Showing part of Season 3 (that will unfortunately never be) was kind of awkward. It does kind of tell you that the makers of the show knew this wasn't go to do so well. Some confidence they had.

For a finale...yeah I was expecting more, but we got some closure, even if some of it wasn't so good. The battle was great, though

7/10

For the series...it's been one hell of a ride, and I've enjoyed a great majority of it. I can't say I have all that many complaints, the series did what it set out to do, except get ratings unfortunately. This series will fade into obscurity but it's still got place on my DVD rack, if nothing else.

9/10

is there a third season? I only recall two
I meant the in-show race season, not an actual third season. Sorry.

its ok! I went on wikipedia just to check anyways:)

The ending was decent, but it reeked of "Crap, we're not getting a Season 3. Better re-write the ending before the deadline!" syndrome.

I thought it was pretty cool Mitsuru Hongo referenced his previous work like that (Outlaw Star).

And worse, the match didn't even last half the ep.
You say that like it's brand new. Almost every race in IGPX starts in the second half of one episode and finishes in the first half of the next episode. Been that way since Edgeraid 1 I believe.

I did like the touch of showing what might be the Japanese ending (although of season one since Black Egg was there instead of White Snow) of the show at the very end though.
There is no Season 2 ending. The uncut uses the same footage for the opening and ending both seasons.

Actually, White Snow does appear in the ending sequence in the japanese ending. Though I can't remember which episode they're put in there. They're just standing there with the backs to the camera, just like everyone else if I recall correctly.

Well Like Duke said the ending was probably rewritten when they knew that the show was being cancelled for good and they decided "let's end this with a more definite ending" or something. Speaking of the Duke, Let Neo Ultra Mike bring up a few points he mentioned in that post he just made about me.

I know. And I'm not saying that every episode has to do it, but there are some where more time to show the race would be more appreciated, espically the last episode. I mean I'm sure they could of found more things to do with the Giant Snowman and showcase one last "cheap" trick White Snow was hiding in the bushes that Satomi would of been able to overcome. I mean it's the last ep of the season: the average kid viewer (like anyone would care now with the show being gone and IGPX having gone to the midnight slot for it's last run anyway) would not have watched anymore after seeing Satomi won. Only the hardcore would stick around to really see the aftermath.

There is no Season 2 ending. The uncut uses the same footage for the opening and ending both seasons.

Oh well I didn't know. But still they probably should of updated the ending then for Season 2 and replaced Black Egg with White Snow. But I guess there's no changing that here or something, but it still would of been nice to see.

I must be easy when it comes to anime, cause I loved this show. Not sure what it was, but something about it made me want to watch every episode. I really wish there was a 3rd season.

I am not NEW to anime, but I am not a critic either (as in, I don't really know what to look for in a "good" anime and a "bad" anime.). but even what people thought of as "Boring" or "slow moving" I thought was interesting. I would have loved to see who would have come next to challenge the team, or see them lose one, or ...*etc*

but, unless a revival the likes of family guy happens, that probably wont happen. I like this episode a lot, and I am glad they did the whole liz/takashi too. been wanting that to happen for awhile, Hah!
I actually thought those lines he said were just right for him (except the "baby" at the end of his "I am never letting you go")

did anyone notice that in the first season he was playing that game, and when he won, or beat it, a lot of his problems became clear? and in the second he had that puzzle, and it worked the same way (and as a symbol for liz and him) one can dream though.

All in all, fantastic series, I will be getting all the DvD's so that I may bestow upon my friends this show.

They were a few cuts and edits in the last nights episode. The battle sequence when they are humans fighting Max was cut down a bit(in the start of the battle), because of nudity with Max and Team Satomi was made red(but in the original Japense version they were Yellowish in color like human skin). Plus Max seemed more crazy in the original than last night for some strange reason.

Other than that it was was ok ending, kind of sad that the show is ending forever though. DVDs here I come.

But I thought that this episode hadn't aired in Japan yet?

Oh, the JP run has been WEEKS ahead of this run.

*what he was referring to was the fact that some people around here had been saying that these final two episodes had never been shown in Japan, that they stopped showing it at ep. 24.

even though it was a pretty good race, the only point of it was to get past their huge creation??? Because once they got past it the race ended.

Max as lead was a bit suprising since it seems it times past she was doing nothing but info gathering (which leads dont normally do ... they get their information during the races). But yeah, Zanak smiling was a bit weird after what they had done the entire season.

Overall i give IGPX an A-, lacking in some parts but "making the grade" where it counts ;)

How could I?

Did takshei and Liz kiss yet or I mean did they you know tell each other how they felt, because I missed the last night episode. Dang it, it was 11:30 and then I felt asleep, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I'm sure you probably know this already, but the only reason FG failed the first time was because FOX ruined it by giving the show bad timeslots and failed to promote the new episodes correctly. Obviously people watched it when they knew it was on, but that's not the case with IGPX, which has been pimped for weeks before it premiered, for every ep in the first season, and then a lot in the second season. And ist ill barley scored and worthwhile ratings.

Yeah they kissed. Takashi kissed Liz and Liz kissed Takashi (they did it twice. I'm not repeating myself).

Wow, what a lame ending.

Don't get me wrong, the end of the race was kind of cool (although I would have preferred it had they actually completely taken the "snowman" down instead of just sneaking by it and going into speed mode) and the Max vs. Satomi imagery was neat, but the second half of the episode....

The "Max is a Takeshi fanboy" twist was one of the worst plot twists I've ever seen. I realize that there aren't that many more alternatives, but it still came off as crappy.

The Takeshi/Liz moment....how much more cliche can you get? I'll admit I chuckled at the springy hair, but I've always found that amusing.

Cunningham seriously needs to get a life.

One of the few good things that came out of the ending....everyone's new favorite pairing.....Johnny X Yuri! <3 <3 <3

It's a shame we don't get Season 3, because the writers were really beginning to hit their stride until the obviously forced ending to this season (and the series :crying:). Oh well.

So true. Maybe a third season would have been more appropriate, at leats to foster the relationship a little more between Takeshi and Liz. It did seem a bit rushed. But as far as endings go, I don't think it was half-bad.

i think if they did ever do a season three i'd like Satomi to move into a higher class (like IG-0). I mean you can only go so many years beating the same teams. With the 0 (Zero) Class, the teams would obviously be different but a whole heck of a lot stronger and the mechs are completely different. To make it better they could promote both Satomi and Velshtein to the 0 Class. But since season 2 ended the way it did it wouldnt be possible to do it that way.

Haven't posted in Talkback threads for this show in a while...

Hot damn, that episode was truly amazing. I've read that nobody has the same feelings I had about this episode, which is perfectly fine; to each their own, as they say. But I'm being entirely serious when I say that this is one of the best endings to an anime series I have ever seen. Yeah, it had its fair share of being lame and silly at parts(like Takeshi's line to Liz and Cunningham showing that he really needs to get out more) but I like lame and silly.

The whole Max vs Satomi bit had me going nuts since the animation was simply stunning. Amy with cat-ears was a cute touch (even tho she already had em on with her pilot suit). A lot of points during the race had me wonder even more how the heck they pilot the mechs, tho. I assume there's a gas pedal or something, since they always "rev" up their mechs.

Shame the series had to end but all good things must come to an end.
I give this episode a 10 outta 10.

Right Right, but I thought it was cancelled twice? then it went on Cartoon network and TBS (or was it TLC...I don't remember) and suddenly it became really popular, and fox decided to bring it back.. again. but you guys are smarter (and more researched) then I, so please correct me!
