"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I actually thought that they were referring to the 2D shorts when they announced they had The Clone Wars until I remembered the CGI series.

I bet we'll be seeing tartakovski's 2D shorts in the future. We'll possibly see them sometime after an initial run of The Clone Wars is over, as that probably makes the most sense. Gosh, this just makes me wonder if we'll see american cartoons like Megas XLR make it to the later half of the block. I haven't seen the later episodes of it for whatever reason, probably poor scheduling by CN, but I was always excited to see Megas when it was on.

Well, more than likely we won't get Megas (due to legal red tape concerning the show's airing rights being tossed away as a tax write-off). The other big issue that's barring Toonami from getting certain shows like Samurai Jack is that CN apparently has some internal rule that if a show is exclusive to Boomerang, it's stays exclusive to Boomerang. Oh, and DC doesn't want them airing former DC Nation shows.

But yeah, anything else that falls under the Turner umbrella (such as the Tartakovsky Clone Wars shorts) is open season.

They did the same for IGPX...

CN doesn't want the shows they have on CN or Boomerang to air on Toonami, because they don't want the kids watching them to stay up to watch them on Toonami.

Plus, parents would be mad if they find CN/Boom is airing "an adult swim show". That's apparently what concerned parents would assume if a show is airing on both CN/Boom AND Adult Swim's Toonami. Not simply a "kids show airing on an adult network". It makes sense why Samurai Jack can never be aired on Toonami.

Also, that Megas news makes me sad. :< Hopefully that just means "we're not going to air it anytime soon" and not "we'll never air it". The Toonami crew doesn't seem to plan their show acquisitions so far ahead in advance, and with the schedule as packed as it is, it's probably so unlikely to get Megas right now that it wouldn't be fair to get people's hopes up about it.... Some of these questions must be tough to answer, considering they're mostly being asked by die-hard fans. I don't envy the Toonami crew in this regard.

This is just not true. Beyond the fact that "concerned parents" aren't really looking at Adult Swim's ever changing schedule to see if shows are intersecting, it is purely about content. Nothing more. Clone Wars has been on AS before, and no one got upset. Samurai Jack is really cool, but it also is really slow paced and sparse a lot of the time and does not fit in with the current schedule, and given how packed things are at the moment anyway there is no need to try to fit it.

No, it's true. Back during the Toonami panel at Momocon, Jason DeMarco explained all of this concerning why shows currently airing on CN or Boomerang can't air on Adult Swim. Clone Wars at the time was an exception, for whatever reason.

It was the exception because George Lucas wanted to market Clone Wars to adults as well as kids. It also aired on TNT if I remember correctly.

Futhermore, I think they even said they'd like to air Samurai Jack, but coudn't for reasons already explained.

That is kind of ridiculous, wow. I still don't really think they would go for Samurai Jack right this moment though.

Sentai announced at Otakon that they "saved" the Big O license from Bandai. It's safe to say season one will never on Toonami now.

Either that or it will be the bridge to getting Sentai shows onto Toonami.

No more convenient excuse that it cannot be picked up due to license limbo.

What do you mean, burnt bridge? There wasn't some sort of incident causing Toonami to be anti-Sentai, was there?

FUNimation and Sentai don't like each other (remember there's still a lawsuit going on between them) and Adult Swim/Toonami have chosen to get on really friendly terms with FUNi. Hence, the rumors that Sentai and AS/Toonami don't get along.

Sheesh, you wouldn't think just being buddies with a company they hate would piss off the other company enough to hate the network.

Hopefully that doesn't prevent any other possible suitors from airing Sentai anime (specialty networks, kids nets like Vortexx or Nicktoons, etc.).
