"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I forget, but were the any visual edits done to Cowboy Bebop? If so, I can see those being unedited this time around, but I don't see any reason to redub the dialogue.

Correction: There is already uncensored dialogue. The original dub as seen on the DVD has the s-word multiple times and was cut/muted on the Adult Swim prints.

Also, there were two visual edits:
Faye busting in on two guys...ahem, "in the act" (nothing explicit is seen), but when Adult Swim showed it they erased the other guy, making it seem like the guy was just going at it with a pillow. xD

and
Faye seeing a man affected by hormones in the shower who has breasts (but Faye knows he's a guy after glancing down...) I wonder if that could be shown now as it's fairly mild.

Okay, here's the updated bannner:

Awesome. That looks great. I'll try to get it up there soon.

Some excess blood was also cleaned up a bit. Adult Swim was a bit squeamish on blood baths back then.

I know we are a long way off, but do you think Toonami will do anything special to celebrate the last episode of Bleach.

Maybe the week before they air the last episode, thay do an all night Bleach marathon of all the important episodes.

I think that an all night Bleach marathon would be a bit too much, especially when I'm not sure if the important episodes would fit within the block or if any of that would matter for the final episode. They might create a special promo for the finale, but I don't think that they'd do something like an all night Bleach marathon.

God I'd hope there wouldn't be a marathon. What an insuferable show Bleach became as it went on. Between having a creator that really has zero idea what he wants to do (as is standard for Tite Kubo, the man is nothing if not a quitter when it comes to stories) and some of the worst filler ever to grace US broadcast anime (only Naruto would challenge it), I'll be very happy when Bleach is finally banished from Toonami for good.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they kept Bleach around for repeats in the later hours of the block. I would prefer them getting another show instead, but given how long Bleach has been around on Adult Swim and the fact that it does really well in ratings for some reason, choosing to restart the series from the beginning in one of the later hours of the block wouldn't surprised me.

If they do anything to commemorate the end of Bleach, I'd probably expect them to play at least one of the movies (hopefully either 3 or 4, as 1 and 2 have already aired on Adult Swim). It'd probably be more appropriate to hold off and do that in December though.

And yeah, I have a good feeling that a Bleach reset might take over for old Naruto once it hits episode 52 again.

+/- if they do restart Bleach

+ nice ratings, could do well early hours in repeats

- 366 episodes --- I'd be in favor of them playing it for one hour a week, but if 30m, it'd take nearly 7 years to get through it again if they only did 1 a week, and that's way too long, so if they removed it completely anywhere, even for keeps, that for me wouldn't be a bad thing either. Doing it in one hour it'd take 3.5 years which is a bit better. There's always the DVDs for those who want to continues. Don't know if they'd be in favor of skipping filler either just to continue the canon portions of the series.

There's no way in hell they'd restart Bleach from the very beginning. There are plenty of other acquisitions Toonami can put on without having that show bog down a timeslot on the block for another decade. DBZ Kai seems like the most obvious replacement.

I agree that DBZ Kai will most likely take Bleach's timeslot, but them restarting Bleach from the beginning would kind of make sense in terms of gathering more ratings for the later hours of the block. I really hope that they don't given how long it would take for them to cover the whole series and they could use that timeslot for a new show instead, but the idea if Bleach reruns taking over for Naruto after they finish airing the first fifty-two episodes again certainly sounds like a possibility. I would hope that they wouldn't do that, but I also hoped that they wouldn't get DBZ on the lineup and that didn't turn out that great.

We don't really know what kind of contract they have for Bleach but if it is still under contract then airing the series from the beginning until the contract expires would bolster their rerun block quite a bit.

On the other hand if they no longer have access to the original episodes and would have to buy them again, they could feasibly make a case to Turner big wigs for a re-airing of Bleach similar to how they re-aired InuYasha but they may just make a clean break from Bleach since they have DBZ Kai.

We really have no idea how well old Bleach might do but old Naruto did rather well right after Bleach in 2013 and both Naruto and InuYasha reruns have proven their worth in the rerun block.

I don't think they are considering re-airing Bleach in the premiere hours so that should be a non-issue.

They may end up with a choice at the end of the year, continue Naruto 53+ or rerun Bleach from some point. I hope they opt for Naruto 53+ or better yet, airing InuYasha 128-167 in the rerun block.

Assuming maybe 2/3 more skips due to some special airing between now and then, Bleach would still end around November and 5 months really isn't that far off (and since we're already half way through June, it's more like 4+ months).

Wikipedia edits have already gone and plotted the end of AoT as well (Nov. 01); and assuming special airing breaks for Titan too ... it still could end in November as well.

Could be an interesting month for Toonami

When Space Dandy's new season begins, I think they ought to air at midnight. It is the perfect compliment to Attack On Titan. After a dark griddy series lik Titan, Space Dandy is the perfect follow up to balence things out.

I think that they already confirmed that the new season will air at 12:30AM and I think it would make more sense to keep Bleach on its current timeslot anyway. Given how long it's been airing at midnight and the fact that it's on its last arc, they might as well keep it at the same timeslot for now. While having something more light hearted to balance out Attack on Titan sounds nice, I think that it wouldn't make too much sense to move Bleach to a different timeslot at this point.

Wow, Bleach is finally reaching it's end on Adult Swim. To think that almost 7 years ago Adult Swim/Toonamii is what introduced me to Bleach in the first place. I watched the whole first arc on the CN network before moving on the sub and then reading the manga.

Comrade,

i would love for them to send bleach out with a bang. the ratings for the show are usually among the best for adult swim action/neo toonami and its been a mainstay on the block for close to eight years. being one of the few shows on the network to soon air 350+ episodes is an impressive feat.

a marathon would definitely be cool. have fans vote online for their 12 favorite episodes or fights and then air them from 12-6 with the final episode preceding at 11:30. i don't know if they still have the rights to the early episodes so it may not even be possible to do this. airing movies 3 and 4 would be nice too but they should probably wait until movie month if they have one again.

i also think it should stay on the block instead of being removed completely. have reruns in the early morning time slot similar to inuyasha when it was still around.

I still think that having a marathon of Bleach episodes would be a bit much. Although, voting for fan favorite episodes sounds more practical than airing some of the important episodes. At least it could narrow down the amount of episodes the series has and get the fans involved. I still don't think that they'll do it, especially when it might be too difficult/expensive for them to get the rights to the earlier episodes. I'd rather just have them make a big special promo for the finale instead. I also would rather have the series removed completely, but having reruns taking Naruto's slot when they finish airing the first fifty-two episodes sounds more likely to happen.

Turner pressroom has the July schedule up on the site. (please keep in mind that it MAY change later on... like always. So, nothing is 100% confirmed.)

New titles for Dandy. (rest of the episodes are just numbered, no title or desc.)

After a big fight with QT and Meow, Dandy is lured to the distant planet of an extremely rare, ukulele-playing alien that wants to turn him into a statue - and steal his smile forever!

Thanks to a nifty, handheld teleportation device, Dandy and Meow get mixed up with a fishy little alien whose planet is teetering on the brink of obliteration!

Schedule, especially for pre-Toonami AS shows is messed up (like every month), but the slots starting from 12am seem okay. It might get fixed after the 20th.
Once again, it is way too early and the schedule might change.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
