If we get another "sloppy seconds" show in the future I'd like it to be something not seen on basic cable before like Hellsing, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Witchblade, Ergo Proxy - good action shows that all got extended cable airings.

Gurren Lagann? Syfy ran that to the ground. Even when they were completing messing around with the Ani-Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-whatever schedule (who in the name of motion comics thought that Star Blazers would be a good idea?!), Gurren Lagann was still there.

Very excited to see Gurren Lagann, I don't think I've been this excited for a show on the new Toonami that I hadn't already seen before. I don't like Sword Art Online and Blue Exorcist that much, so it'll likely be an improvement in my opinion regardless of how much I like it. I'm excited to see the new episode of Beware the Batman finally as well. I like Black Lagoon, but I don't mind Batman before it, I think I might even enjoy it more. Also, it'll be nice to have Bebop back for the late hours, although I wish they'd gotten their hands on the HD tapes.

Can't really complain that much about "sloppy seconds series" now that the block is overloaded with premieres including a world premiere and a US TV premiere (though DBZ Kai is kind of a different case, given that it's likely to take up space earlier in the block where actual premieres could be).

Not to mention I don't see a problem with putting a show on the lineup that has already aired elsewhere in most cases. The only exception would be DBZ Kai due to being on other channels more recently, especially compared to most of the other "sloppy seconds series" they've picked up, and DBZ is seriously overplayed as it is. In this case, Gurren Lagann was on Ani-Mondays six years ago, so it has been long enough to where being on the lineup isn't really an issue.

Yeah, the only two shows I really watched/enjoyed on Ani-Monday were Gurren Lagann and Monster (and the occasional episode of Gundam 00). It had a lot of shows, especially from the Manga Entertainment library, that ranged from mediocre to outright horrible (and who the hell approved Descendants of Darkness, a show that's borderline yaoi, to air on US television?).

When it went, I only mourned its loss because by that time Toonami had gone and anime on Adult Swim had dwindled to one of its lowest points, but in retrospect it was a disappointing block, especially packaging-wise.

It was on at 4AM before, so this would probably be an improvement. At least it's possible that people waking up early on Sunday morning could watch the episodes at that time.

I didn't mind the homoeroticism on Descendants of Darkness as much as I did their habit of killing off all the women. At the very least, it was fun pointing out all the double entendres in the talkback.

I went into AoT knowing how popular it is and I was not disappointed in the least. However, I know it's not the same show. That being said, if that was a far-reaching general statement, I disagree.

You know besides the huge difference by last year having Family Guy, Cleveland and just one Boondocks 10:30-12AM which got very good ratings and lead to those very good Toonami ratings. The later in the night Family Guy airs the better the night does.

Now Family Guy is at 9:30 and the hour and half before Toonami with two Boondocks and a Black Dynamite between it and Toonami. Needless to say those are not bringing in the same stellar numbers. On the bright side AoT and Bleach regularly beat the hour before them, on the downside the numbers start lower which leads to lower numbers for all the premieres.

I can't really see it fitting on the block that well, despite the following it has among an older audience. Plus, being owned by Viacom would probably make that pretty difficult. I wouldn't mind if that actually happened, but it seems pretty doubtful in my opinion.

JDM has stated several times that he dislikes Avatar, so no dice, unfortunately.

Avatar would never ever ever be on Toonami since Viacom owns it and you know that. Not even a small chance. This is about as clear a "no" as feasibly possible.

Of course, Korra couldn't air.

With that said, as far as not being a good fit goes....if Sym-Bionic Titan and Samurai Jack can air, Korra is pretty similar.

I'm glad Gurren Lagann is getting a run on Toonami. It deserves a run on a station/block people actually do watch occasionally. Toonami is much better than that joke of a block Sci-Fi had.

It got good ratings on SyFy, though, right? I remember at the time AniMonday was doing better in the ratings than ASA was.

Gurren's a good fit for Toonami and obviously some new viewers will see it, but let's not pretend it wasn't already a hit.
