WBD Acquisition Thread

Thank you, man. Arrogant cinephiles can rejoice for saving movie theaters full of boring movies. This is unfortunately over for all of us. We will only pay an overly high fee for a narrow catalogue and less localization to Netflix. I hate HBO Max.
HBO Max might be dissolved into Paramount+, if that makes any difference to you.

Considering this:

I doubt there will be a really big movement from the other states to block the merger with Paramount.
(not entering politics, though, just saying an opinion)

If it makes a difference to you, it's possible that HBO Max will be included in Paramount+.
With such a debt burden, they will never provide a good localization and streaming service. WB Streaming is completely dead. Get well soon. It's even possible they withdraw from the market.

Back in October, Paramount said that it will close it down: Paramount CEO wants to kill HBO Max, merge content into Paramount Plus

Sorry for double-post, but:

Who thinks otherwise?

A reminder to please not get too overheated about this, we appreciate there's a lot of emotional investment here and we will give some leeway, but on this particular spot on the internet we would appreciate if you can try and refrain from apocalyptic predictions or extremely aggressive posting

I for one don't want to cause any kind of drama, I just share the news I find and my opinions on them. After all, it's not up to us what happens with the acquisition no matter how much we are going to "cry" because Paramount finally won.

Ugggh... don't you get it!?!?! Hasbro's investment on DFC is $0 now, so their share of the channel is in grave danger!
Looks like if the merger passes through, DFC will be among the first to close.

Healthy aspect

Here are Warner Bros. Discovery's current brands in Denmark:
  • 6'eren
  • Animal Planet
  • Canal 9
  • Cartoonito
  • Cartoon Network
  • CNN International
  • Discovery Channel
  • Discovery Science
  • Eurosport
  • HBO Max
  • Investigation Discovery
  • Kanal 4
  • Kanal 5
  • TLC
  • Travel Channel
And here are Paramount, a Skydance Corporation's current brands in Denmark:
  • MTV
  • Nickelodeon
  • Nick Jr.
  • Nicktoons
  • Pluto TV
  • SkyShowtime (50% joint venture with Comcast)
Now, here are what the brands of "Warner Bros. Paramount, a Discovery Skydance Corporation" (tentative name for a company created by a hypothetical successful merger between Paramount and WBD) in Denmark would look like:
  • 6'eren
  • Animal Planet
  • Canal 9
  • Cartoonito
  • Cartoon Network
  • CNN International
  • Discovery Channel
  • Discovery Science
  • Eurosport
  • HBO Max
  • Investigation Discovery

Legendary Pictures has notably worked with both WB and Paramount. Two of Legendary's movies when WB was their primary partner were co-produced by Paramount - Watchmen (marking Paramount's first involvement in a DC theatrical adaptation since the 1940s Superman cartoons, Paramount would be involved in subsequent Watchmen adaptations too) and Interstellar (which Christopher Nolan directed when WB was his primary studio).

Legendary also co-produced the WB-distributed Detective Pikachu, the first live-action film based on Pokemon (notably, Paramount distributes the fourth through seventh anime films in that franchise for Miramax, which acquired those films when it was part of Disney). Although Paramount is now Legendary's primary studio (and they will collaborate on another video game adaptation, Street Fighter, which was originally under Sony even though Street Fighter games have never been exclusive to Sony consoles, the series actually predates the launch of the original PlayStation), since WB is now going to be under the same ownership, any further Pokemon content from Legendary should be housed in that division (as well, WB was the original distributor of the first three anime films in the West). This should also include animated content produced in the West (not the anime stuff produced in Japan), which can include animated adaptations of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games and the Poke Park games, plus animated films turning classic cartoon characters under the WB division into Pokemon (like Bugs Bunny into a Buneary).
If the merger passes, in the end it's a win-win for Legendary

The site WBD created to encourage the vote of Netflix's bid is still up, at the moment.

Meanwhile Pluto doesn't exist in Romania.........
Yeah, but Romania still has Comedy Central as a linear channel.

Meanwhile, Comedy Central in Denmark got turned into Paramount Network, which was later shut down in favor of ViacomCBS (now Paramount) doubling-down on Paramount+ in Denmark.

The Paramount+ Movies and Paramount+ Series linear channels effectively superseded Paramount Network following its early 2022 closure, though Paramount+ being replaced with SkyShowtime in Nordic countries led to the two Paramount+ linear channels being replaced with two channels called SkyShowtime 1 and SkyShowtime 2.

Interestingly, Romania somehow still has both the SkyShowtime linear channels and Comedy Central, whereas Denmark never had both at the same time.

In Portugal:
Paramount: MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr.
WBD: Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, Discovery Channel, ID, TLC, Travel Channel, CNN International, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2
That would make a total of twelve channels
CNN Portugla doesn't count as it's a mere licensee

I'm expecting for Comedy Central to close after PSKY acquires WBD.

Knowing Paramount, all it will be left will be very few channels out of those. Yeah, even Kanal 4 and Kanal 5 and Kanal 9 are in danger.

Yeah, if the merger happens, Paramount's linear footprint is reduced and can easily be integrated. Maybe MTV in Portugal would shut down, but I don't know.

Portugal also has the HBO Max and SkyShowtime streaming services too, just like Denmark.

However, Portugal doesn't have Discovery Science, Animal Planet, Pluto TV or Nicktoons. And Portugal also doesn't have WBD-owned local TV channels the same way Denmark has Kanal 4, Kanal 5, 6'eren and Canal 9.

In Romania there is also Warner TV, HBO and Cinemax channels, Food Network.
