WBD Acquisition Thread

I think it says a lot about animation fandom, that for a lot of them, the only thing they can think of is Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network crossovers.

Shades of people rooting for Disney buying Fox "so X-Men and Fantastic 4 can be in the MCU".

Nick is WBD's creation, and I see this merger as a meeting between "father and son".

Closing the deal between July and September of this year? Ummm......

I think Paramount will shut down Cartoon Network and Cartoonito and move the CN shows to Nickelodeon/NickToons, and the Cartoonito shows to Nick Jr.

Yeah, knowing that old Looney Tunes shorts used to air on Nick back in the 80's make me think that the franchise might have a sightly bright future. Imagine if Bugs Bunny and Spongebob's team-up will win some fans.

No one knows what will happen, but I personally hope for schedule improvement for both channels.

If we look at the positives (for me), and don’t take into account that shows will suffer because of this

1. I grew up with Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Fox Kids/Jetix/Disney, and these channels are very important to me. I’m glad that the first two channels will be together under one owner.

2. Historically, Cartoon Network, MTV, part of Comedy Central, and so on were created by Warner. And now, in essence, Paramount has completed the full buyout that began in 1986. Exactly 40 years.

3. Paramount continues to dub programs into Russian for Nickelodeon, and there is a chance that Cartoon Network will also dub shows and get rid of the boring Latvian voice-overs.

4. HBO Max has launched in many countries, including the CIS in Russian. This automatically makes it a platform available to Paramount for placing its own shows. Luckily, through a VPN I can watch HBO here (in the US) in Russian.

Of course a lot of YouTube users have never forgiven Paramount for the mass takedowns years ago when the company was known as Viacom.

Yay monopolies.
bye more cable channels
Welcome South Park rick & Morty crossovers
Good bye Warner bros pictures animation
hello rise of paw patrol with their ads telling kids to buy toys because they better than anyone else
And yupie for less jobs....

this is the greatest thing since disney buyout of fox that gotten blue sky studios to fold and increase productions on more terrible live action remakes (sarcastic)

I think they'll keep Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and probably close everything else perhaps merge Cartoonito and Nick Jr.

Another show that will be under one roof worldwide is Deadwood, which HBO and Paramount Television co-produced (technically, the third season was produced by CBS Paramount Television, but it continued to use the 2003 Paramount logo even after other shows switched to CBS Paramount logos in the spring of 2006 - the series finale of Deadwood was, other than the pilot of Minority Report and all of School of Rock, the last regular use of any form of the Paramount on Parade fanfare, the television version of which sounded like the Star Wars theme, ironic given Paramount's ownership of Star Trek).

Amidst all the social media chatter about studios closing, employees getting laid off, projects getting canceled, and CNN turning into Fox News, some are saying that Netflix may be the ultimate winner in all this.

It’s speculated that after Paramount absorbs Warner Bros. and the Ellisons run both studios into the ground, Netflix may be able to pick up both of them on the cheap.
This is exactly what was going through my mind.

For me, seeing Netflix own linear networks would have been bizarre, considering they started the streaming changeover in most of the world

so, if that's the case, the whole Warner bros paramount thing is going to end up like sony ownership of mgm?, didnt last long and sony sold mgm to Gary barber?

With all the money they put up, it sounds like to me Paramount is Elaine Benes, Netflix is Sue Ellen, and Warner Brothers is the Kennedy golf clubs.

As someone who's Portuguese, it just bugs me again that we lost. I wanted Portugal to win this time because this is Ronaldo's last, but no, we think Ronaldo has devolved significantly, and we lost against Spain.

Conflicted about the upcoming film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, given the creator now distancing herself from it despite co-writing the screenplay and blocking one of the actresses on social media despite defending her casting in the film.
