Sonic Boom--News and Discussion Thread

I'm betting that the characters should be voiced by some of the actors we know and like.

For instance, Sonic should be voiced by Tom Kenny...

Please no, why do some people want Tom Kenny to voice Sonic? Almost all of his voices sound the same to me, they just change in pitch.

Billy West is another one I always see people bring up for Sonic. Again, I don't get it.

The characters are said to be voiced by the actors who voice them in the current games, so that's moot.

Myself, as long as this new series isn't a retread of SatAM or Sonic X, I'm fine with it. No offense to any fans of SatAM, but my younger brother bought the complete series DVD set of that a while back and I tried re-watching it, and man, that series has not aged well. I don't think I have to say why I don't want a repeat of Sonic X.

Hopefully, this will be a love letter to fans that meets somewhere in the middle of the TV shows and the games, kind of like the Nickelodeon TMNT series.

I'm only OK with Tails' design. It even has the wrench which is his other symbol. The other one are his two tails.
For me, Knuckles looks like a cross between:
a) a street kid
b) Kevin from Ben 10: Omniverse
c) some alien from Ben 10
and d) some character from the Gorillaz music videos,
all in just one character.

Another preview of Knuckles. It appears that they have a few designs they were looking at and they're making us wait for the final reveal.

Looks like a sloth.

He looks... more or less like an ancient guy from China.

Gag images aside, I'm not too interested in this - but if it does well and is better than Sonic X indefinitely and is not royally overrated like Sonic SatAM, I can only wish those having anything to do with it the best.

Nah!!! I''d prefer Bobb'e J. Thompson, Greg Cipes and Zendaya voicing the main characters for Sonic Boom on Cartoon Network.

I think that was someone's idea of a gag. I'm pretty sure that's not what they're actually going to look like... Sent from my iPod touch using toonzone

Lol, it was sarcasm. I was obviously aware those weren't the real designs. I was just joking around.

MOD NOTE: Some posts have been deleted. Let me remind everyone that flamebait is not allowed around these parts and they're deemed infraction-worthy.

Continue discussion now.

Bobb'e voicing a main character on Sonic Boom? Weird, isn't it?

It won't be a Sonic Sat AM reboot since it won't have Sally Acorn in it.

All I'm worried about is that Sonic continues being the unlikable unrelatable Gary Stu he already is in the games nowadays and don't develop any actual flaws. That Tails continues being a tool rather having a personality. That Amy continues being a creepy stalker that demands Sonics love instead of earning it. And for the last one, that Knuckles continues being stupid.

Those right there are examples of what made Sonic X bad, too - I can only hope this show avoids what you just pointed out if my interest is to pique in the slightest...

But really, I doubt any of the characters will be recasted from their current VAs.

Don't let that be knuckles don't let that be knuckles oh Crud It's gonna be Knuckles isn't it

Another thing that bugs me about all of this? Just how well it's going to be treated.

CN isn't all that good with even toyetic anime acquisitions - so even if this does well, we should be praying it lasts long.

True but look at it this way: it's SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.

This isn't just any 3rd party acquisition, this is a golden opportunity and I'm sure CN knows that. It's not every day that one of the greatest video game companies in the world with one of the biggest franchises in history comes knocking on your door requesting you to air their show about said franchise especially when (as many have said) they were the last to be considered.

You may not like to hear this but Cartoon Network picking up Sonic Boom is an astronomically bigger deal than them airing Young Justice and Green Lantern, two shows which theoretically should have been successful but somehow weren't (their time slots are partially to blame). In any case, have some faith in the show and in Cartoon Network.

I don't think this show will flop in the least. Even if Cartoon Network doesn't advertise it at all like they do with most of their Saturday morning cartoons, the show will still perform better than anything else in the lineup, because it's SONIC.
And if not, Cartoon Network isn't the only network in the world airing the show. Even if it underperforms here, some network somewhere will renew it for another season, and we'll get it here eventually.
After all, if something as lame like Sonic X can still air with good ratings, then I can't imagine this not doing well.

I wish Imgur wasn't allowed on this forum until the time is right for a return since it's been unavailable in the UK since last September, so I don't see why people use links from the site for here when it's no longer available in the UK and I'm really angry that their parent company made this stupid decision.
Happy 45th anniversary, MTV.
MeTV Toons is a great channel when it comes to classic cartoons, but we know it can be way better. The Duck4Real (me!) elaborates on this in his latest YouTube vlog. Watch it!

WB has done so well with releasing the Paramount Popeye cartoons on home media that they should be chosen to distribute the long-delayed animated Popeye film that at various points was to be made by Sony and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (who has a long association with WB sister property Cartoon Network).
